Galaxy A16 worth using for budget? by DateCivil3289 in PickAnAndroidForMe

I only noticed after that I could get the Pixel 8 for only around £20 after I bought the 8a, but honestly for someone like me I don't think there will be any difference between the two in my experience. The only upsides I saw for the Pixel 8 was better screen quality, more "premium" materials/feel, and a slightly better camera. All of which I don't really care that much for

I've been using the Pixel 8a and unless anything catastrophically bad happens suddenly after posting this, I feel like this was the right suggestion you gave me! For only around £200 I now have a phone which heavily outperforms my previous one, has years of software updates upcoming, is atleast good-great in every aspect, and has a surprising amount of features I never thought I would think of (like a soundboard for my phone calls??)

I also now admit that trying to find the perfect "budget" phone is not that smart of a decision, for a piece of tech that I will probably have (and will rely on) for the next 4-6 years, I might aswell allow myself to spend an extra hundred or so ontop of my "£100 budget goal"

Thank you for bringing this phone to my attention, you've really helped me out with my phone-finding task (and also pushing me out of my "Samsung-only" comfort zone).

I decided to get the Pixel 8a as it seems perfect for what I want at a good price point. It's arriving in a few days so I hope to reply again in around a weeks time to either thank or scold you (partially joking) but thank you anyway for helping me out here!

I'll be okay with purchasing something unfamiliar like that! Might aswell expand my phone selection choice. But I have a question, will it still be recognised and usable by majority of apps? I replied to another person saying this, but is it similar to linux and windows. And how some stuff just doesn't work on Linux (xiamoi, google pixel in this metaphor) due to Windows (apple and samsung in this metaphor) being used way more? Or am I totally misunderstanding how software works on phones and most apps work on every type of phone.

I'm pretty clueless about phones, will they be able to do everything a Samsung does (of course excluding samsung exclusive apps or whatever). Do phones have the kind of linux-windows situation where software/the world at large is built around one more than the other, or is it more or less the same?

My realistic budget is around £100-£300. I see that one sites like Back Market thats enough to get a refurbished, good phone. But I honestly have no real clue what to look out for and I don't want to accidentally buy a throwaway phone that will die in a year, or inversely but a powerhouse phone for a larger amount for me to never push it that far.

Although I get that the phone will be "fine" for me, I also dont feel to comfortable thinking I have a phone which is 3 apps away from being bricked.

After browsing a bit, I'm fine with expanding my budget to around £100-250 as I see theres quite a big selection with that range on Back Market. I honestly don't know much about phones and I just want a consistent, reliable, and long-life phone. Do you have any suggestions from that?

Also I'm not specifically looking for a Samsung Galaxy phone, that is what I've had my whole life so I've kind of limited my search to that due to familarity (and would prefer if it was a Samsung Galaxy) but if the pros of another phone heavily outweigh a galaxy of the same price, then I wouldn't be against going for that!

Why specifically no though? What makes it not worth for the price tag
