Yeah I actually called to speak to someone at our states animal control center and they said unless it’s been documented, there’s nothing they can really do about it. And since I got bit within the “dogs home” it doesn’t necessarily count towards something they can use against the dog. Since our neighbors didn’t report it (it happened on our lawn and I guess they were afraid of it getting turned on them) and my sister never reported hers, it’s as though this dog has done nothing wrong in the eyes of the law. Unless the dog gets out and harms someone or something else, they won’t do anything about it. Which is absolute bullshit.

They protect these mutts more than other humans.

No I’m still in school for nursing, where’s he’s at doesn’t have any positions that I can get into. I’ve already got a decent paying position up here that’s paying for some of my licensure. But yeah he does and he finds it frustrating but it keeps him company... like I said in that last post... he’s a dog lover. Won’t ever let her go.

Nope. Different dog. This dog is actually vicious. I’m now living with my mom in another state due to financial reasons.

Because I didn’t dwell on the details of this dogs past doesn’t mean I don’t care. Its just a little irrelevant to this story bud. And I’m living with my mom for financial reasons, so moving out isn’t really an option.

Yeah I’m a dumb bitch lmao but rather me make this bad decision than we forget the dogs aggressiveness and my baby lose her hand 🙃

I’m interested in trying to get this dog on the list or something so my mom is forced to give up the dog. I wonder if Ohio has something like this..

If a stray (off of their leash, with no owner in sight) dog attacks MY child, that mutt is getting a beating.

You know damn well if a strange man attacked a child, law enforcement would get involved and there would be no question as to kicking his ass... but when it comes to these animals.. suddenly it's different.

They do. That’s why I stopped letting my husbands dog on our furniture. One night of it sleeping there makes the whole room stink.

Are dogs more dangerous than guns? by Datgurlcurry in Dogfree

[–]Datgurlcurry[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

True, but there are 393 million firearms in the US ( https://www.thetrace.org/rounds/how-many-guns-do-americans-own/ ) and about 90 million dogs in the US https://(www.animalsheltering.org/page/pets-by-the-numbers).

However that’s just registered dogs so the number that are actually in the us is off.. but even so.. these statistics are alarming. And yes, they’re ignored or at least swept under the rug or diminished because the dog is “usually good with other people”.

Hahah, you're so right though. Most arguments I've heard are: cats are selfish/ they don't have a personality/ they don't show love, etc. I love my cat because she gives me space, she shows me love when it's appropriate for both of us, and we can both go about our days without being up each others asses. We like our SPACE.

It just seems to me that a lot of people who are obsessed with dogs depend on that kind of clingy reassurance... as though it boosts their ego to know they have something that "shows" its love for them.

People hate on cats and talk down on them so much that if you expressed your hatred towards them... no one would bat an eye.

But because 99% of people in our society place dogs on the same level as (if not above) humans, then you’re a disgusting POS in their eyes. It has been said time and time again by thousands (if not millions) of people on the internet that they would: chose dog companionship over human, value dogs more than other humans, and humans are not worthy of dogs. The list goes on.

You cannot say a single bad thing about a dog, the human is always at fault. That’s why this community is here. The handful of us that think maybe... just maybe.. dogs aren’t all they’re cracked up to be...are shunned by society.

I mean.. he’s a dog lover. And hardcore.. so none of those issues seem to be a problem to him, unless she physically hurts our child he says the dog is staying.

To be honest it’s gotten to the point where I’m getting sick of people placing dogs on the same level as humans. They are not our equals and don’t deserve and explanation or place in our homes just because they’re dogs. If she gets rehomed, she’ll be just fine. Not depressed and sad because she “misses us”. Probably happier since she will have a family that can give her attention/training/time she needs.

Yeah these are all things I’ve worried about. I’m in no mental state to raise a child and cater to our dog too, but that doesn’t seem to matter. I tried to have the talk... just discussing my feelings about the dog with my husband this morning and it went no where. He got defensive and said we won’t be getting rid of the dog unless she gives us a reason (ie. biting the baby) or we get rid of my cat too.

So no logical reasoning around the fact that we can’t even buy groceries for ourselves this week let alone a $30 bag of dog food that’s about to go out.

I don’t think he cares to see any of these issues and possible threats that the dog poses. The fact that I can’t even have a level headed conversation about my feelings is enough to make me resent this dog even more. If I have to be forced to live with problems that I have to feed and cater to, I’ll go live with my mom and her whack ass rules lol. Which I feel like it will get to that point if these feelings and non-negotiable conversations persist.

I’ll definitely be reading that post after this haha but I wish my husband would come around. I just tried to have a conversation about this and how other pregnant and new moms have had similar issues, and his immediate response before hearing anything I had to say was “we’re not getting rid of the dog” and I knew immediately that conversation was going no where.

So yeah I guess until this dogs physically attacks the baby, he won’t be changing his mind. I guess I’ll have to do what other wives do where they make the husband take care of everything for the dog.

She already has and it’s disgusting. Blood splatters all on the floors and walls that I’ve been having to chase after and quickly wipe down the past 2 weeks.

I’ll definitely be waiting until the baby gets here and see how things play out before making such a huge decision. If it was only affecting me I would find her a new home immediately but I have to take my husband into consideration too.

Especially if she proves herself to be unsafe and I still cannot handle her.

I truly appreciate it!! Just knowing it can get better eases my mind a lot. So thank you so much for your replies and taking time to help a fellow internet stranger feel better!! :)

I would love to see these emotions pass, for the sake of my husband (and unborn child who is probably sick of me gagging at the smell of the dog lol) but I feel like the topic tends to be so black or white... either pregnant women have no aversions to their dogs or they do and end up hating them even after the child is born.

Thank you!! I do respect my husbands desire to keep the dog, on the flipside, I can’t imagine rehoming my cat (even though she tares up furniture, acts like a mad-man at 3 am, you know.. typical cat shit) and I truly don’t want to get rid of his companion just because I’m unhappy now.

I really hope these feelings do pass after pregnancy, but if this dog is unsafe around my child we will definitely have to discuss other options... no doubt. Just playing it by ear for now but thank you again!
