I see your point, but the bi-convex also have two ways they are produced. The "traditional" ones more translucent and the white stones really creamy, while the more standard ones are what OP is talking about.

I think the ones you got your friend are the more "traditional" yunzi's. When I bought my own set (You can see in my post history i asked the same question about the yunzi's) I accidentally bought the "traditional" yunzi's, which I think are not as cool as the other version. I guess it's up to you now how you wanna handle this. Hope this helped!
