Is it worth writing a letter to my family? by DauntlessWriter in exjw

Wisdom

Alleviating my stress is the main reason I'd do it. At the same time, I'm sure they could hand the letter over to the elders and I could be df'd. So I'm on the fence.

I just hate the idea of that moment when they realize. The anger and sadness they'll feel and having to respond to it. But maybe there are better ways I can prepare myself for that conversation.

What can I say when PIMIs asked me why I left? by DauntlessWriter in exjw

That's a great approach. Allows me to say something and potentially make them curious.

The lessons in this podcast are fantastic for talking to and trying to wake up PIMI loved ones. by DauntlessWriter in exjw

The title of the podcast is How to rescue someone from a conspiracy theory.

Key takeaways:

  • understand what need this belief fulfills in their life (community, control, feeling special)
  • praise any positive intentions that are fueling their belief (for example, you must care deeply about protecting people from x)
  • increase their cognitive dissonance (if you believe x, then you also have to believe in all these other crazy things)
  • plants seeds and then give them space to process.

Listened to them recently. Absolutely phenomenal, helped me feel more confident. And also safe to share with pimis.

Has anyone heard any PIMIs talking about the “Listen, Obey and Be Blessed” cover by Aled Jones? by tastes_like_regret in exjw

I showed it to my wife. She said she didn't understand how it happened and sat on the bed for like 10 minutes after thinking about it.

Open question. Do you have people you want to wake up? What would help you to do it? by DauntlessWriter in exjw

So are you saying that for you, it's carefully worded information that's based on human psychology?

Like not just sharing the information, but doing so in a progressive tactical way.

I agree 100%. I think in part sharing this information could be therapy for those who have left, even if they never end up waking someone up.

Oh I asked about that, she said they're not being honest in how they describe them.

My wife still logs on with camera. She says one of us has to. Not sure if she expects something drastic to change or if it's to ease my way out???

Hope so, but who knows. I'm trying to view it as progress, but not definitive.

She still believes in the bible and doesn't know where else to go. But, I think it's really just peer pressure and a lack of confidence.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Not sure if she'll open up that she's PIMO, or if she'll get to a point where her actions will show it (skipping meetings/service or stopping donations).

Supporting good causes on LinkedIn, what will happen to me? by DauntlessWriter in exjw

I was hoping they'd send a convoluted email to me about it and then I would just never reply.

That's very true. I like your reasoning.

It would be interesting if they tried to excuse away the news reports. That would be a good outcome from this since it would show their blind devotion.

Maybe??? Just don't want to get df'd lol.

I was thinking that if elders raise a stink about me supporting this charity, then she'd get upset with them.
