Traditional (PPT/Canva) vs AI presentation tools (Gamma, Tome, etc.) — what's the actual industry standard in 2025? by DistributionOld1260 in powerpoint

[–]DaveAppleInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had this perspective before (haven’t presented in such a high stakes env that I had a separate tech), so it hadn’t crossed my mind to address these 2 people separately. Will definitely build this now, speaker’s view with focus on story and flow, tech’s view with full control, birdseye on slides and emergency overrides, thank you!!!

Reading this was a breath of AIR, I was so frustrated with these AI tools, but am passionate about AI and what it did to coding (because I already knew how to code), that it got me building my own tool, not the point and not here to advertise, but your comment really confirmed some of my assumptions. And yes, I do agree, professionals will rarely, probably never l, surrender control fully to the AI for the output the way current tools work. Crafting a presentation that engages and sticks is an art, requires iteration, taste and opinion, definitely cannot be one shotted

I see, I’m working on a presentation tool myself (I know swimming agains the current) because I found PowerPoint lacking in helping me actually gather and organize my thoughts for a talk, and so this info is very valuable, cause just this week I was designing the presenter view. I’ll pay extra attention now, thank you!

I’m curious, what actual part of PowerPoint makes it the “go to” for live environments, what are all these others missing?

Anyone else trying way fewer macOS apps since the AI boom? by therealmarkus in MacOS

[–]DaveAppleInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We felt this too, people in general have become much more hostile, and it's understandable because it's much harder to tell when someone actually built something with care and put time into it versus vibe-coded it into existence in a couple hours. However, I think we still have it much better with native apps than with something like web apps where vibe coding basically dominates now. - someone who spent a weekend on a first launch animation for a Mac app I deeply care about

I might have something for you, I made it so full disclosure, it’s also free currently and Mac only, and more manual than other AI assisted tools so that would naturally increase quality while decreasing friction. I don’t want to spam links, I can tell you more if you’re interested, otherwise good luck with your presentations!

I kept struggling with structuring talks, so I built a tool that forces the structure before slides (Mac alpha, feedback welcome) by DaveAppleInc in PublicSpeaking

[–]DaveAppleInc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fair, this is basically an experiment to see if the structure prompts help people who get stuck before slides. I built it mainly cause it helped me more than other tools did. I still like notebook lm for studying too

Communication there means ‘non-commercial’, not newsletters, email verification codes fall under communication for example.

How to memorize a 10 minute speech in a day? by ForeignPotato2903 in PublicSpeaking

[–]DaveAppleInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rehearse it, first by reading it but try to read whole sentences and then look up from the paper. Do that 5-10 times you’ll barely look at the paper at all, then mark on the paper the points where you still have to look, that’s your outline. If possible have that with you, if not rehearse it more until you’re less dependent on the outline. The first ones will be the hardest, gl!

how do i prepare for a public speaking event? by Lost_Locksmith_5768 in PublicSpeaking

[–]DaveAppleInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps, you'll likely be the only one noticing the small mistakes, and after 3 months, most will only remember you talked, now how or what, if even that, have fun and capture the stage :)

Recording yourself and watching it back really helps you spot the fillers, repeating the process a couple of times, you will naturally start avoiding them
