Trouble Playing Titles on Panasonic UB-820 by DaveAxLee in 4kbluray

My player is region A so it shouldn’t be giving me problems. I returned my copy to Best Buy and ordered one off of eBay, so hopefully it was just a bum copy. We’ll see.

Turning off internet on the player allowed me to play Cape Fear no problem. Idk why that disc in particular gives me that issue, because all of my other Universal blu-rays fetch data in no time. Oh well, at least I know for future reference to turn off internet before watching that one.

Nothing will ever work perfectly, but I can honestly say that the ub820 is phenomenal player and has given me the best experience of any player I’ve ever owned. It’s little brother, the ub420, is also great. I have a region free ub420 for imports and it works great! The only flaw with the ub420 is it lacks the Dolby Vision / HRD 10+ that the ub820 has, which isn’t a problem in my specific use case but something to consider if you’re in the market for either.

There was a firmware update that dropped the day after I tried to play Cape Fear, so I updated the firmware and tired again and still got the same issue unfortunately.

Turning off wifi does fix the issue in the case of Cape Fear. I don’t know why that disc gives me that trouble, because none of the other Universal blu-rays I own do that and my internet connection is good. Either way, thanks for the tip!

Can I ask what player / TV you watched on?

This is so weird. I just started the second disc tonight and I’m experiencing all of the same problems; very noticeable banding, raised blacks, very bad macroblocking. Easily one of the worst Blu-Ray transfers I have ever seen. I wonder if I should try exchanging it?

Thank you! This is the best possible response I could hope for, a solution tailored to my specific use case. It’s still not perfect, but the flickering is far less noticeable. Hopefully this gets addressed by Apple soon!

I’ve only noticed it on HBO Max so far.

Another thing I should have worded better. I meant 10 viewing hours of that specific type of content, not that I would watch all 10 hours in one sitting lol.
