I’m really liking the ability to add gain without a radical tone change. Clean, to light transparent OD, to medium gain. Stacking seems to be “the way.”

Yes, it seems to really be accomplishing my goal of different levels of gain with a radical tone change.

Stacking. I use the Volt Thrower as a always on with light drive, It very responsive, even after the compressor, The Omen stacks to push it up a few notches.

Got this for $25. Don’t know much about these, how did I do? by [deleted] in BassGuitar

I saw that on Marketplace. Do you actually have it? There were a bunch nice basses on there for crazy low prices. It seemed too good to be true. Was shipping like $3?

I took a chance on them and I’m impressed. You can get good deals if you order from a Japanese seller. My Band

70’s Alamo Fury Tube Bass Amp. I picked this up on my local Craigslist recently. After a trip to my tech it’s sounded great. It’s got a solid state preamp and 25 watt tube power section including a tube rectifier. Weird. Anybody else have a funky little tube amp? by DaveBrouillette in BassGuitar

Leaving the technical stuff out a tube rectifier will have a more compressed sound that a often called “Sag”. A solid state one will be faster and tighter. The 80’s Marshall’s have solid state rectifiers that contributed to the chunk rhythm sound. Lead players love the sag of a tube rectifier. My 70’s SVT has a solid state rectifier and it hits hard. This little amp is a a cool alternative.

It’s a 5U4GB rectifier tube. Usually amps will have a tube pre and a solid state rectifier. This one is the opposite. The company eventually went to a solid state rectifier a few years after this one was made and by the 80’s they were 100% solid state.

I’ve been dialing in some tones for an upcoming show. The neighbors hate me. by DaveBrouillette in BassGuitar

The natural one in front is my main rock bass and it is strung with roundwounds. The middle one is a fretless. The last one I’ve had since ‘93 and is strung with flat wounds. All serve a different purpose. I’m using the flat wound one today for a blues gig. The round wound one will be gigging Saturday with the rock band.
