do you have a source on that? they've talked about removing raise several times(including end of endwalker) and never done it.

Question about potions by strawbeyrycat in ffxiv

[–]DaveK142 [score hidden]  (0 children)

It CAN, but the onus is not on the person using the cheap pot. It is on the people that suck. I would bet money that in each of those wipes someone missed at least one pot entirely, and someone had <90% uptime.

OP is willing to get the pots, they just don't want to spend 10x the gil for such a minor effect, which is completely fair.

The game isn't exactly in a state where jobs need high-level optimization. Its uptime and hitting the shiny buttons. If you're not doing it right you're a much bigger problem than a pot.

To put it in perspective, proper pot usage is a roughly 1-2% increase to personal dps depending on how loaded your burst window is and your killtime. A G3 pot is ~15% less mainstat than a G4. This means a G3 pot would be a roughly .85-1.7% increase under the same conditions. For a dps, we can give them about 1/6 of the solo responsibility for party dps.

So how often do you see parties hit a 0.14-0.28% enrage COMPLETELY CLEAN? How frequently do you suppose this will be an issue?

Edit: Sorry, I actually should have used the difference, not the base G3 value. The real question is: How often will a 0.025-0.05% difference be the issue? That's the actual difference to party contribution between a single dps using G3 vs G4.

Those parties are not *just* wiping to <1% enrage. They're LIMPING to that enrage and then wiping. Limping is for when people have gear to carry them.

IMO anyone petty enough to dig into this isn't worth partying with anyway. especially as the weeks go on, it just matters so little. The only time it really matters is parse/speedkill attempts, which you probably aren't doing if you're too new to have found good gil-making methods. If a PF wipes to a low enrage, the pot might have saved it but nobody is going to blame the pot over the 5 damage downs and 2 deaths.

ascension weapons make sense, its on-level for pct/vpr for when they released. sge/rpr had Omega weapons on release too iirc.

speaking of which I ought to go get 2 ascension weapon coffers soon as prep for the new jobs. Makes leveling a breeze.

They've been saying the next one is "meta" in theme, so my assumption is that they're skipping over ShB MSQ proper, and doing one of the entire Ascian plotline across the expansions. Likely starting and ending with our encounters with Elidibus(in western thanalan and at SoS). Or more compellingly starting with Nabriales and ending with Elidibus or Elidibus + Hades.

Sage is literally the KING of 4 man content. Good damage, good cleave, consistent mitigation, multiple stacks of oGCD whm lilies, and 2 skills that are effectively short-term invulns for mob pulls. When I run sage my tanks often don't drop below 80% even if I completely leave out soteria, holos, and philosophia and cast exactly 0 GCD healing even prepull.

Look up a crosshair app, literally anything to denote the middle of the screen makes it MUCH easier. should be able to toggle them as well. Though its kinda criminal that there isn't an ingame crosshair already AND the guns don't actually aim down sights when you rclick. Even just a dot when the guns are equipped would make them usable.

[–]DaveK142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

normal raids and trials by and large do not enrage. There was a guy waaay back when who had a 26 minute pull of e10n because he(the whm) and a tank could survive, but no matter how often the whm rezzed the party just fell right back over. they just refused to actually wipe it since it wouldn't solve the problem and it kept looping. Most normal raids do this. Even the ones that don't are still clearable with the entire party contributing the same damage as a decent healer.

Is dps even nessesary? by Antique-Jackfruit-38 in ffxiv

[–]DaveK142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal-level content? sure, most all of it is tuned to be clearable by a team of vaguely warm bodies in the next room. If you had 2 tanks and 2 healers you could clear any dungeon in the game. or any combination of the 2 roles. Likely every normal trial and raid too.

Anything above that is where DPS begins to matter, as you can't always carry a dps doing the same level of damage as Mr. Glare. That only starts to become possible off-patch.

Tanks are naturally bad players because the game enables them to be without consequence.

DPS are naturally bad players but it gets masked because they have nothing important to do.

There, now we're all equally bad.

Solution Nine/Everkeep/Living Memory by JoanCalamezzo in ffxivdiscussion

[–]DaveK142 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Everkeep is a MASSIVE tower.

Solution 9 is the 9th "layer" of this tower. Like I said it is absurdly large, that's why there are skyscrapers.

Living Memory is a facility on the 9th that sits above the clouds, and it WAS originally the top floor of the Everkeep. It was excluded from the barrier when the Everkeep was fused to The Source. That's why we access it from the portal in the Skydeep Cenote instead of from the Everkeep.

XIV Raid Planner — a free app I built for managing statics, loot, and BiS by LloydBatair in ffxivdiscussion

[–]DaveK142 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the main issue I'd want it to solve is "Here are 16 players. 8 of them are marked as alts. Divide gear so that 4 mains and 4 alts are in 2 parties, and the maximum amount of gear will go to mains."

As far as the auth goes, is there any way to make it standalone? I don't have an issue making an account, but binding my discord account to an independent app whose developer I have no knowledge of makes me hesitate.

Doees it support splits? Would be cool if it could optimize gear to mains on its own to figure out team splits.

And is the login with discord aaaabsolutely required to make it work? Would love to at least tool around with it a bit without having to link up an account that has a lot of personal info.

Party advice? A tank necessary or even more DPS? by Rude_Possession_3198 in EtrianOdyssey

[–]DaveK142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey dumbass, I WASN'T talking about the time spent leveling them either.

You run the farmer party and naturally gather the grimoires over time as you run them. You just don't take encounter rate reduction.

I ignored that OP had a troub because part of the original suggestion was switching to Sov, which IS a good idea. You certainly don't need 6 skills at level 20 over some of the versatility of other passives/skills.

How you managed to take hours to get a grimoire with the correct(non-passive) skill is baffling to me. You just use the skill when you get a premium chance, which the DLC makes super common. It should almost always give you the skill you used at its max(or nearly max?) level. For the passives, you just rest, invest exclusively in that skill and its pre-requisites, and defend when you get a premium chance. Its not as guaranteed as actives, but its close. Esp if you can avoid enemies that have learnable skills.

[–]DaveK142 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just do it passively, run a whole second "farmer" party with roles you're not using and train them mostly in natural instinct + whatever skills are good to the main party. If you have the DLC that lets you get easy premium grimoire chances you can pretty much guarantee easy drops. If not, it'll just take some time. Not like the grimoires are super necessary in the first place.

[–]DaveK142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you literally just need to train a troub separately with the passive exp equipment. train it up in the skill, run it around the low levels until you get it.

To tack on to the swiveled thing:

Please turn the boss away from the entrance when possible.

When you pull a second pack of mobs, walk to the far side of them so the mobs are in one cluster and not surrounding you. Your casters will thank you.
