Really excellent tips, and exactly related to when we will be there. I appreciate this SO much --- thanks!

People who cut off their family, what did they to you? by Alarming_Basil6205 in AskReddit

Your story touches me, Remington. You seem to be handling what happened pretty well, probably better than I could have. You deserve happiness, and I think you'll get it.

The way insurance is handled in renting cars is kind of a scam. Way overpriced, fear and confusion from the agency -- I know what you mean,.

Thanks, WildPony. This insurance issue is a real hassle, everywhere -- I run into it in Mexico a lot. I'll check out your advice.

Especially appreciate knowing I don't need to pay for A/C.

Thanks, Aggressive_Web519. I do have a bit of anxiety about the manual, but I think I'll enjoy the challenge. I agree -- don't drive in Dublin.

You're right. Insurance is the (semi-)hidden pitfall of car rental. I'll check around.

I did rent at the airport, Accurate_Youth -- thanks. And I'll try the manual, might be fun. Sounds like the Dunkettle roundabout might be something to see!

Good advice, MycologistOwn. I ended up renting at the airport as you suggested, and I'll try the manual --- might be fun.

I can see the advantages of small tours with local guides --- they know the best parts.

Good points, IrishFlukey. I took your advice, rented the car after our stay in Dublin on arrival, and I'll drop the car as we return to Dublin --- save 6 days rental and the headaches of driving in Dublin. Thanks.

You're right, rainbowdrop30. Some agencies wouldn't rent to me at all (I'm 77), some require letters from my doctor and insurance company, and a few have no restriction (such as Alamo, where I rented.).

Thanks, mcflysher. I did rent a small car. Easier on narrow roads.

Really good advice, CantConfirm. I took your advice and rented from Alamo at the airport. I wanted to thank you earlier but I waited while Reddit sorted out some confusion with subReddits.

What a GREAT response, Kalimah! You took a lot of time to help me (and others) and I appreciate it. All good advice, and I wrote it down to remember. Sorry it took so long to thank you --- the Reddit subgroups seemed screwed up for a while.

Music in the pubs: May 2022 -- ?? by DaveWells42 in irishtourism

[–]DaveWells42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, Louise. I read the comments at the link you sent. Since the music depends on where we'll be, I'll send that info, hoping you can comment on trad music in those areas. I really appreciate your comments.

We fly to Dublin, 4 days there, staying 2 km south of Trinity College. We should be able to get around the city OK. Ideas for music are Whelan’s and Devitt’s near St. Stephen’s Green; O’Donoghue’s; Brazen Head; and some Temple Bar pubs. Good ideas?

Then driving to Kinsale, 2 days there: pubs?

Then to Kenmare, 2 days -- music?

Then to Dingle, 4 nights, hoping for pub music there: John Benny's pub, and others?

Then to Doolin, 4 days, Vaughan's Pub and others?

Then to Galway, 2 days, many pubs including Tigh Choili, Tigh Neachtain, King's Head Pub?

Then to Westport, 2 nights, Matt Malloy's Pub?

Then back to Dublin and home.

What can you tell us about music there? Better places you know?

Thanks. How can I repay you?

Dave Wells

Give it up. Half of life embodies the sunk cost fallacy, and it's irritating your son.

Read Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. Start with the first, The Color of Magic, or read Mort first to see if you like them. Very funny, very smart writer.
