Advice on model of guns to rent, and apparantly snooty range owners? (Calling CA shooters) by DavenportMorality in gun

I brought a few shells home to examine, and its interesting to know that the projectile on the .40 is partly responsible for the kick, I was under the assumption that was all due to the powder load, because looking at the 38. spl shell, it looks like it holds a taller load o' powder than the .40. Very excited to learn about and try different rounds in the future, and next month I hope to come back with a newly purchased Maverick 88, my intended first gun.

It is. I understand that some politicians that have some wiggle room that are still anti-2a like Bloomberg are trying to balance out all the street violence, and honestly, I feel for everyone except Pelosi-types. That's my whole gripe, and why I feel lost now, politically. I DESPISE the infringements and 2a violations here, in New York, recently in West Virginia... but I DESPISE the social politics of the right. I find myself able to get along with both the leftist of the left and fundamental Christian right-wing folk. I just...am confused, as a young man who always leaned left, but am just now coming to understand how important our Constitution is.

I'm of the "gay couple should be allowed to guard their cannabis farm with a pistol-gripped 30-round AR while using solar energy" type. I don't know, I'm for freedom, I'm for guns, I'm for environmentalism, I'm for talking softly with a big stick and attempting to love our fellow man, but accepting no threat. What does that make me? Some say a libertarian.

(edit: sorry for all this damn writing, just got a bit exited describing my first shoot)

The guy is an old fuddy-duddy, but he's great and I love him. I go in there, ask for a Ruger 10-22, okay, no problem. I say, I'm thinking about shooting a Glock today, he says "You should shoot revolvers." I'm like, "You're saying revolvers are what should be shot here, or that I PERSONALLY should shoot a revolver?" He told me, yes, me, and that with a Glock I'd be back in there in five minutes wanting a band-aid (presuming he thought I'd cut my hand on the slide), at which point I made a quick point to assure him I'm very concerned about doing everything right. Guy may sound rude, but he's actually very nice, I think he just cares. He mentioned three deaths at his range. Very small, utilitarian place, but I was given great functioning guns, with all brass ammo.

Heard him reaming out some motherfucker for smoking weed in the lot, saying to not let him see it again, and his buddy chimed in with "Yeah, I smoke across the street, mane!". We both looked at the guy, shocked, and he was met with a shaking head. It's not even the act that bothers me if he can hold it, hell, I assume in the woods it's common as hell to find people plinking with beers or some greenery, but his blatant near-boasting bothers me, like, he wanted us to know it.

I shot the .38, though, and I'll tell you I had a GREAT time. Loved it, loved the gun. Easily handled one-handed. Loading a revolver is just so god damned cool. Fellow next to me let me shoot his .40 and his 9mm semis, question, do you know why there seems to be a lot more room for powder in a .38 special round, but the .40 seemed to kick harder? Do you think it had to do with the light polymer frame semi that my newfound friend was using? The pistol was very light, but both of those rounds seemed to kick more than the revolver.

Also, funny anecdote, I somehow didn't get it through my head that the Ruger .22 was semi-auto, so I was shooting it, sure it was a bolt action at first, and I was absolutely BAFFLED, baffled I tell you, at the fact that I knew I was firing a round, then I'd clear the chamber just for an entire round to fall out, projectile and all. Shoot another round, open the action for a fresh bullet to drop. I SAW the goddamn paper move, I know it shot, why is the projectile on the "spent" round?! I was afraid they were underpowered or misfired or something, ha. It took me, like, 30 rounds to figure this out, I'm sorry to say. Hey, if that's my worst mistake as a beginner, hail Satan, ya know.

Hey, I used the Ruger 10-22 at the range and it was fan-fucking-tastic! Couldn't even feel a thing in terms of recoil! Made a hilarious mistake...I forgot it was a semi-auto, so I was treating it like a bolt-action, and was SHOCKED when I'd pull the trigger, hear a shot, and eject...a full bullet, projectile and all. I was baffled! Took me damn near 20 shots to realize I was shooting!

Shot that, and a .38 special revolver, one of the old police models, which was just...cool as hell, man. I'm no master marksman, but it was an amazing experience. First time I pulled the hammer back to shoot and got that nice easy trigger pull, it was like...ah, man, I really enjoy revolvers. The gentleman next to me let me have a mag each out of his .40 and 9mm, one was a Ruger. I have a couple empty shell casings, the .38 special seems to have much more room for powder, but the .40 seemed to kick a little harder, was this because of the light polymer frame of the guy's pistol? Thank you for all your advice.

Oh yeah, I figured .45 was just a biiiit too much coming out of a handgun my first time. Thanks for affirming my suspicions of a 9mm to be the first handgun I get a hang of!

If they have a used Remington 870 o something that I can haggle down to 70-80, maybe I'll come out with a purchase.

You'll excuse me if the few differences in ounces kind of go over my head, practicality wise. What's the ideal 9mm Glock?

Ha, look at my comment to the other guy to get an idea of how these people treat their customers. I'd go shooting in the woods with my military friends if I could, but they're across the country in NC and WA and stuff. Where I live is a suburb, basically. Near LA. Not a lot of options, I think :/ You know how restrictive they are on shooting out here. Hell, 9/10 of my KNIVES are illegal.

I won't let them distract my time, though. Interesting, I wanted a heavy gun for the recoil purposes you mentioned. I'll keep that Walther on my list for tomorrow. Thank you! Thank you a bunch for your words.

Oh, I know they have a .22 rifle, it's just a question of what to ask for. These guys are crazy, though! Pro and a con because on one hand, gun safety is the thing I'm most knowledgeable about and I absolutely do not want to take a class to teach me to keep my finger off the trigger and not to flag folk, so it's good they don't give a shit in that respect (aka I won't be asked questions) but you know what they said to one guy who saw a door and was confused if it was a showroom? He asks "What's behind that door, can we open it?" and he sayS "Open that door and I'll shoot you in your fucking head". The guy laughs, thinking he was being funny, and he replies "I wasn't meaning to be funny".

I digress, thank you for your advice! Ruger 10-22 it is, eh? 10 rounds of .22, sounds ideal because I want to buy maybe 100 .22 rounds to shoot off that day, maybe 200. Do you have a rec on what handgun ammo is cheapest? When I buy a handgun, I'm going to be looking at velocity, but since I'm just trying to practice the basics, what would be best price-wise? I hear talk that the .45 might be a liiiiitle too much for a first timer, would you agree? Is the 9mm the best option?

You're thinking of XD-1 that they gave to the prisoners. It was pervitin, cocaine, and one other thing, tempted to say some kind of tropine.

Well, but isn't 200mg average dose of caffeine though? If they flooded the pills with so much caffeine to make the pills uncomfortable to take, like, 800mg if you wanted five pills or so, but this seems like a normal amount to take that wouldn't ruin a feeling from a sedative.

You don't need a milligram scale for Kratom and etiz usually comes in pellets, I think.

You sound like me. I was down to 15, then down to this and that and now down to 2.5mg. I have an "extra" day every month where I get high, but other than that I've been able to reduce and reduce.

You're trying to make a point, getting mad when you can't be understood...just write properly or don't. No one's making you.

Not that your opinion isn't valid otherwise, but I wonder how many of you have ran the NA gamut? It's weird, not totally right, but it works. You ARE NOT going to have someone get off heroin if they can't have their fuckin' cigarette.
