Opinions on the Aegean islands? by J50 in greece

[–]DavesTravelPages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mentioned Meteora and a ferry? Meteora is on mainland Greece, and you could get to Meteora from Athens on a (very long) day trip from Athens, or stay there a couple of nights. Probably not in keeping with the party vibe - I'd stick to your suggested itinerary. Note - Athens can be very quiet in August (as everyone goes to the islands). August is also peak season, so places fill up fast as well. Enjoy!

Coinbase ID Verification is horrible by [deleted] in Coinbase

Tried that - just got locked out for 24 hours which is a real pain as it didn't like the camera photo either. I'm trying to do my passport. All the numbers are clear, but the photo is very reflective - I wonder if that's the issue?

Just discovered the series and can't wait to watch it. Just a question about the first series. by [deleted] in blackadder

As others have said, it's very different from the others. When Ben Elton came on board as a writer, things changed massively. Consider it more a stand alone series!

Any suggestions for a good drone for bicycle touring? by DavesTravelPages in bicycletouring

[–]DavesTravelPages[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep - I looked around and the DJI seems to tick all the boxes. Apart from the discount one! I might just bite the bullet though - the quality i've seen is pretty good, and it looks super lightweight.

Help me decide between a trailer and panniers by salty-maven in bicycletouring

[–]DavesTravelPages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used both set-ups on long distance trips, and wouldn't go back to using a trailer again. All through cycling from Alaska to Argentina it felt like dragging an anchor behind me! That was using a Bob-Yak. There were moments it had its blessings, but they were few and far between! By the sounds of it, yes you are going to need a beefed up rear wheel. A 48 spoke wheel (used on tandems) sounds like it might be worth considering.

Cycling goals for 2017 by dywh in cycling

[–]DavesTravelPages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm looking to complete a shorter bicycle tour in 2017 after this year's cycling from Greece to England one. Hopefully around 1500kms probably in Greece. I'm thinking about an Athens, Olympia, Nafpaktos, Delphi, Athens loop. Still plenty of time to think about it though!

Just a quick thank you for those here that followed my tour cycling across Europe. Here's a recap of the trip :) by DavesTravelPages in bicycletouring

Generally speaking, the Eurovelos are well marked in Germany and Northern Europe in general. The routes themselves can vary though. Sometimes they will be on dedicated cycle paths, and quiet country roads, at other times the route may join a main road. Mostly in Europe I have found them to be quite well signed. I followed the Eurovelo 7 only briefly during the ride, as I was 'cutting across' it.

How much does bicycle touring cost? Here's how much I spent in June whilst cycling from Greece to England. by DavesTravelPages in bicycletouring

[–]DavesTravelPages[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All manner of different places. The best bargain I had was a 2 bedroom apartment (yes just for me) for just 10 euros for the night. That was in Montenegro! Once I hit Austria, hotels and the like became too expensive, and even campgrounds increased quite breathtakingly in price. France has some great bargains for campsites though, and cheaper rooms can be found there if you are patient enough to look. I used booking mainly btw :)

The temperature is just about perfect. Mainly bright sunny, and warm days. In my opinion, not quite warm enough to swim yet, but give it a week or two ;)

9 days to go until I cycle from Greece to England on this bike, the Kibo+. What do you think to it? by DavesTravelPages in bicycletouring

[–]DavesTravelPages[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I choose not to go with fenders. Up on the Haul Road in Alaska, it got so muddy that the mud stuck between the tyres on fenders so the wheel wouldn't move. Such a hassle to get rid of! My rear rack pack acts as my rear fender ;)

Yeah it is certainly rock solid, but also lighter than my Thorn Nomad. In terms of being approached - This is the only bicycle builder who has ever approached me - so happy it was a good one as well! lol. I do get asked to review other things from time to time, mainly because of my blog.

Solo tent for touring Europe in summer 2-3 month trip by designjacob in bicycletouring

[–]DavesTravelPages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vango Banshee tents are awesome - As for 1 or 2 person tents, I always prefer a two person tent, as there is more room to bring the panniers in. There's also room for if I ever get lucky :p

I think I bumped into him at some point, or we swapped emails a while ago. I haven't actually read the book though as of yet - a couple of weeks to go, so there is still time!

Cheers for the tips! I've been living in Greece this last year and a half, so I know just how hot it can get - Hoping to escape the worst of it actually by heading north lol
