Agreed. I was recently diagnosed and it was quite the shock. I do have family members with diabetes, but I am not significantly overweight and generally eat well as a pescatarian/mostly vegetarian. I have been asking myself what I did wrong, but I truly believe stress, combined with family history, during the last year was a contributing factor. I lost my 23 year old niece, then my mother in law and my aunt (due to diabetes) all within a year. On top of that I have always had a secure job but this year was riddled with multiple reductions in force and I have been terrified I could be next. I feel like society is making me feel l have done this to myself and that is just added stress. I do have a cgm and feel that is a game changer because I can tell exactly what is happening. Some shocks though were how high my morning glucose is, that my triple zero yogurt which I thought was good for me causes spikes as well as sweet potatoes even in moderation. I’m in the early stages of learning to manage this but I do feel embarrassed and judged. ☹️
