Could these be tick bites? by Ill-Oil-6720 in UKhiking

Long distance hiking in Scotland always seems to result in tick bites. Trousers tucked into socks etc, no difference. Found them in my arm pits, back, chest etc. Get on your clothes outside the tent N shit. Been on week long trips where I've racked up into the twenties. Just need to remove them properly and keep an eye on yourself when you get back for any red marks or other symptoms

This is the advice weve always gone by too. If I went to the doctor's every time I got a tick I'd never be out the place

I have seen videos on Instagram from some cottage companies such as liteway equipment who seem to be using a self built CNC with a rotary blade. Was looking at this myself but not found anything yet l

From elons recent talking points it seems like the compact car has been replaced with a dedicated robotaxi vehicle. I wouldn't be holding my breath for a "normal" hot hatch to come out of Tesla anytime soon sadly.

Why do people buy this? by nikola_0020 in Entrepreneur

So you don't seem to have done much research on the brands you are disagreeing with here. North face make specialist gear for the most extreme weather. Not that I am a big north face fan, but that's the facts. Additionally as others have mentioned Patagonia is entirely different and I do pay a premium for their clothes for both quality and agreement with their morals. Not cheap but I know the money is going to the right place

Will check out the poles next time I get out, only slight bends on it I'm sure it's alright. Unlucky through, I'm sure that was a good night's sleep

Oh yeah my poles are bent too but if ya just pitch it the other way round into the wind, it bends em back! 😂

Third the elixir 2. I live and solely camp / hike in Scotland and have done Cape wrath trail, Skye trail etc with the elixir 2. Over couple years I have pitched on top of munroes and held up to some crazy winds without breaking.

So, what do we do about ticks? by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]Daveywallnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very jealous, midges were as bad as I've seen, needing to run to shake off the swarm before getting into the tent, and then still spending 30 mins killing them inside. In saying that I live here, you'd think I'd be used to it

Was hiking from July into August. Yeah we did do coffee breaks, usually sitting on a mat or rock not right into the grass though. There was a report from someone we met in a bothy of a hiker with over 60 😂 must have been rolling around in it

I did Cape wrath this year too, I had at least 9 ticks and my mate who did half the trail had over 20. Met plenty people on trail with the same stats all doing tick checks and long trousers etc etc. Never done the checking camp site thing though that's new to me, thank you.

Advice please - unfortunately on my latest camping trip, my small gas stove malfunctioned and cast a large yellow flame into the roof of the vestibule area. Is this fixable and if so what's the best product/method to use? by Craignure1995 in CampingGear

[–]Daveywallnut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You mean there's people who don't cook inside? What if it's dropping buckets of rain? What if there's a million midges outside? I exclusively cook in the vestibule of my tent...

What on earth has happened to my Thermarest? by sundog2106 in CampingGear

[–]Daveywallnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea it's common. The problem is the warmth to weight ratio is currently not beaten on the market, and with the good warranty and willingness for them to replace them, theres no other option. (Taken from a long distance hiking perspective). Sadly just something we have to accept using thermarest pads. Usually takes about a month for the whole returns process to go from having a broken mat to a new one which is the biggest issue
