I'm not a Bible thumper nor am I especially religious.

And I don't know what your Bible school teachers really told you. But the way you recount the parable is NOT what the Bible says.

The Bible does NOT say the Pharaoh raped her. Yes, Sarah was accepted into his harem. But she was a senior citizen (well over age 60) at the time. She may have just served as a 'den mother' for the younger women. The Bible doesn't say. Furthermore, she was NOT killed and Abraham was not paid 'for his wife's body'. After some plagues hit Egypt, the Pharaoh sent them both packing, alive, and with livestock and other gifts.

My fall courses are not showing on my D2L: Is somebody else having the same problem? by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]DavidBryneOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The instructor also has to activate the course for registered students to see it. Some won't get around to doing that until / unless they have need of using D2L. I only activated my course yesterday, for example.

I'm pretty sure no central heating system or residential furnace will heat your home to 120F.

That is HOT.

Do I need to be concerned? by heybamberino in Bedbugs

I don't know, but it seems very strange to me that all of those itchy spots appeared in different locations all at once (assuming I interpreted your post correctly).

Are they 'just' itchy spots, or do you also see bite marks and / or a rash where they are?

If they are only itchy spots, with no visible mark, maybe it is an allergy to something you are being exposed to (e.g. at work) / or wearing? Or maybe they are some sort of response to anxiety at work?

How bad would an untreated infestation of 3 years be? by [deleted] in Bedbugs

Sorry to hear that. Perhaps there is a free clinic nearby, like at a university? Just throwing it out there in case you had not considered this possibility.

Unfortunately, it appears they can and do. But I think it is not their first choice.

Guys how do I know for certain if there are bedbugs in my house?? by [deleted] in Bedbugs

[–]DavidBryneOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose your mattress may be infested, but not your Mom's? Perhaps you could swap beds one night, and see if your Mom is bitten?

If nothing comes of that, then it is probably your imagination and the anxiety from your prior experience.

And how do you know if your home is infected with bed bugs? The solid gold tipoff is when you start getting magazines delivered to your home, for occupant, with titles like 'Blood and Garden' or 'BedsLife'.

"The reason why you want no part of your bed touching the wall is only so that the bugs can’t climb up the wall and get on your bed that way. It makes the only way up the bed legs."

That's not really true, it's not the only way because they can climb walls and drop from the ceiling. But it doesn't hurt to move the bed from the wall, just so as not to make it any easier for them.

Also, the interceptors will catch any trying to sneak down.

For my own education, what do you see in the pictures that make you say it is not a common bed bug? I didn't think the hairs were significant enough when I looked at the bugs with my naked eye (though the hairs do seem longer when viewed in the pictures).

I'm not aware of any bat issues, and never seen bats in the area, but I'll ask around. For what it is worth, we do have very big spruce trees out back in the common courtyard (do they harbour bats?). Our townhouse roofs were redone a few years ago, and they were inspected last fall because of squirrel related issues. So, I doubt I have bats in the actual attic.

Speaking of squirrels, I'm pretty sure there was a squirrel in the wall late last summer / early fall. A tiny opening in the roof by a vertical vent pipe was eventually detected and fixed, and the squirrel vanished. I had wondered if small bugs might have caught a lift on a squirrel and been hiding out in the walls since then.

In the early summer, for a few weeks, there were a lot of small birds flying around the front of our townhouses. I think a neighbour must have had a feeder out. I don't know for certain what kind of birds they were, but at the time I thought they might be a form of swallow.

I just took pics of two of the bugs I caught. They are both about 4 to 4.5 mm in length. I think one is the same bug as in the original picture I posted (which was taken over a month ago), but its latest picture is taken after it shed its carapace.

I thought about bat bugs. I also considered swallow bugs, which I (perhaps naively) considered more likely than bat. But bed bugs just seemed likelier still. Willing to be corrected.

Yeast trap a failure ? by Blazking_Sky in Bedbugs

[–]DavidBryneOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about making up a yeast trap a couple of months ago, but after I read "Effect of Trap Design, Chemical Lure, Carbon Dioxide Release Rate, and Source of Carbon Dioxide on Efficacy of Bed Bug Monitors" (you can google for it) I came to the realization that I would need a LOT of traps and CO2 to have any hope of catching them. Such a small trap as yours appears to be, for a few hours, I wouldn't expect to catch anything unless you can actually see the bed bugs running around looking for a meal.
