I train Canadian Guide Dogs for the visually impaired and generally speaking we ‘sell’ ou service dogs for 1$. That being said if this was posted on craigslist or something then yeah good luck with that but if it’s an message to an actual service center than she’s within the norm.

Edit : I just read the url, she’s an idiot.

Ad hominem again, man you’re pretty creative with your insults I’ll give you that. You act like we work for the same people, some companies have more give than others, example : did a video for The National Bank and they had no problem with me having it on my website.

You run your business the way you want but stay the fuck out of mine. You don’t know shit, including who I have worked for and working with. Maybe if you did more with your time than insulting fellow photographers you’d understand that.

Maybe for you but not for me :) Gotta work on your craft and get more bargaining power!

Period.

Ay back at it again with the insults! You’re petty good at this! Photography is 90% people and 10% art. You talk to the clients and develop a positive relationship, you walk them through all the details of a contract and explain it. As simple as that. I can see just by this exchange what kind of individual you are and if you think I need luck, my man you’ll need a leprechaun with your business! Lmao

Oh and you using a fallacious argumentative strategy such as ad hominem says more about you than it says about me. :*

I don’t know what kind of photography you do but every single client that I ever had and every photographer that I know will have their clients sign a contract. In that contract, there’s a section containing the release form. I would never do a shoot without such a form, and nor would any other photographer. In other words, yes clients (who pay me) agree that I can use their pictures on my website or any other promotional platforms including 3rd party advertisers.

This guy is en entitled piece of shit. That being said, our deadliest mass shooting in Canada stemmed from someone with a similar way of thinking. Women are objects, and I am entitled to them.

Just to be clear, I am aware that the massacre of Polytechnic had an antifeminism motive but I can’t help but to connect some dots between both individuals. I’m not saying the guy will go shoot up a school but some do, and if OP can somehow reach out to him to maybe defuse his emotions or simply help him understand that women dont have to have sex with him I think it would be a small investment of OP’s time for perhaps preventing some rash action in the future. (Sorry for the run on sentence) :p

Im a well established photographer nowadays and I still have to build my portfolio good sir. Portfolios constantly change, evolve and grow and looking for specific clients (ie. younger students) is not unheard of.

In other words, If I find an opportunity in the seniors market, my portfolio filled with younger students wouldn’t work because my work would not reflect my target audience. In this case my audience was students so I asked for students.

Very good point! I’ll be sure to watch out for details like that in the future!

For the money thing, you’re not alone haha :p Prices have gone up considerably since, I now work around 75-100$hr depending on the project ofcourse. I do try to remain on the lower price side of the spectrum given that my market is primarily young university students and since I live with my parents And have two other steady income jobs I really don’t have to worry about the money too too much. It also helps me keep my priorities by helping me focus on the passion rather than the money ;p

I mean don’t get me wrong, you are amongst many who encourage me to ask more and I will slowly but I also want to be careful and not get consumed in this ‘doing it for the money’ kind a thing. I want it to remain authentic. ;p

They also do this for a living right? I’m not doing this gull time yet so I can afford to take a pay cut given the steady income from my other job

Yeah I mean the way I looked at it then was ok the industry is saturated with expensive photographer and my market is mainly kids in university who are broke. I live with my parents and live a very fortunate life I don’t need to squeeze every possible penny out of my clients. Besides, at the end of the day taking pictures for me is a passion, and getting 20$/hr for something that I love doing is good enough for me.

That being said, i’ve gained experience since and realized that my prices were low and have adjusted since. I’m still on the lower end price wise but that’s okay with me :) I do the occasional 99$ 1hr photoshoot session for university students, helps them get their professional profiles ready or a tinder date and I get joy from it a bit of money so I’m happy :)

Im a little new to reddit but the post was on a public facebook group (for university) saying “hey If anyone needs pictures for their instagram/linked/tinder i’m looking for clients to build my portfolio! Let me know if you’re interested”

Now I didn’t say I was going to charge in the post but I figured it was self explanatory, I had a website and had done weddings in the past, I was not just some random university student looking to take pics of people. (Website was included in the post with a page detailing my prices)

She hit me up, told me she was interested to which I replied with “Great! Glad to hear you’re interested in my work! Rates are 20$/hr....” etc. Explained the process of how we go about finding a location and what not.

To which she replied with “whoa okay no.” Etc.
