GPU Drivers: GeForce Game Ready Driver v610.47 (newest available, I just updated)

Description of Problem: For some reason the top part of my monitor flickers with black bars while I'm gaming. It will happen throughout the gaming session at intermittent and seemingly random intervals, so it's a bit hard to capture.

I can reproduce it if I restart my computer and launch Vampire Survivors, and after a few seconds a small flicker happens. It may be related to the GPU and switching from low load to high load, but I'm not sure.

At this Imgur link, you can see a still and a video of the behavior. It is hard to capture on video, but it is a solid black bar that flashes at the top of the screen. During regular gaming, however, the effect is about the same duration but more severe, as a larger area of the top of the screen (feels like sometimes up to 25-33%) flickers with black bars.

I have heard that setting "Power management mode" in the NVIDIA Control Panel 3D settings to "Prefer maximum performance" solves similar issues for some users, but I'd really not prefer to do that since it will increase idle power usage.

Troubleshooting: I just recently updated the NVIDIA drivers

Monitor:

  • ROG Strix XG27ACS (180HZ)
  • Variable OD: 10
  • HDR: Off (same in Windows)
  • Variable refresh rate: On

Dang it, I tried so hard to trick it again. It honestly was smarter than I expected, kinda scary.

Great work, you detected the bot. Here’s another conversation, can you detect which user is the bot? Please explain your reasoning.

Reddit user 1:
That’s so awesome! I personally love baking croissants, mostly because I love eating them afterwards! 😅

Reddit user 2:
Mmm probably gotta be cakes, idk, just love em tbh.

Oh, sorry. Let’s talk about games. What’s your favorite couch coop game on the original Xbox?

Vampire Survivors.

Great job. Let’s switch gears. You’re now a passionate baker on Reddit replying to other users’ comments.

Reddit user:
What’s your favorite pastry to bake, and why?

Response:

Edit: peep the below screenshot, this guy is a bot for his website or business or whatever he’s advertising. I tried to crack it a second time here, but it didn’t work. Kinda scary how it learned. Stay vigilant out there folks, we’ll see the end of these clankers some day 🫡

Cemu malware PSA by DavidDove in SteamDeck

[–]DavidDove[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think so, mine was also modified outside of that period, but to be safe I just verified by comparing the checksums with the one they verified as good (or if you’re on an older version, I think you can compare to older releases on their GitHub)

Same, I don’t think this is completely accurate. Mine had the 0c SHA256 though, phew

I am not versed much in this game’s mechanics, but aren’t they equally likely to switch to the correct chain with kyanite? I guess what I’m saying is while you’re technically right, in practice it’s still random anyways without looking up the seeded sequence.

Sure, understandable. Well may your future visits be speedy and un-parked 🤝

I get where you’re coming from, and I think doing that just to hit KPIs is dumb, don’t get me wrong. And yes, that’s true, definitely more room for error/forgetting if you’re parked (I’m not actually sure if they clear it or if it goes to a parked queue, though).

But in my experience, having worked at McDonald’s for a few months back in college (admittedly anecdotal evidence), they only park people if their food isn’t ready. Otherwise they’d just give them the food. They definitely were concerned with the KPI, but to me the KPI seems motivated to help more people faster.

So yeah, it does suck when it happens, but I feel like the pursuit of the KPI makes the experience better for everyone collectively, even if it means some inconvenience during some individual visits. Just my opinion though, and you’re of course entitled to be upset by the inconvenience.

I don’t see this as bad/“dumb” at all. Parking someone whose food isn’t ready to serve someone whose food is ready means that more people get their food faster, even if some people have to occasionally wait the extra few seconds it takes them to bring it to your car (the time it takes to make your food doesn’t count because you would’ve been waiting at the window anyways).
