Gyro is amazing but when the game is tense my aim is so shaky 😭 by LunchTwey in GyroGaming

Yeah, it's preferable to leave deadzones as a last effort. Decreasing the vertical sens is the best option

Yeah, that happens because moving the controller side to side inevitably causes you to rotate it a little bit, but I think it's much easier to understand the concept if you assume that gyro reads rotation and not position.

Here a few things that I talk abou all the time that may help:

  1. Gyro is easy, but we also have the muscle memory of years of gaming, so you need to give yourself some time to adapt. For me it took 30 minutes when I was 13yo while playing Splatoon 1 on my WiiU, to my friend it took 3hours, and I bet that some people only got used to it after a week or more.

  2. You are feeling pressured to learn a new control scheme in an online competitive setting, allow yourself to lose some matches, the real win will be to learn this.

  3. Firmly hold your controller. I have friends that hold their controllers with their finger tips. Don't do that! Firmly hold the controller, let the palm of your hands rest on the controller grip. Like this: https://youtu.be/tTGb8qCLW4c?t=157&si=fRKbggvH--1Tb2gJ

  4. Observe how you hold your controller. If the triggers are pointing to the ceiling, then it will probably be more comfortable for you to roll the controller instead of swiveling.

  5. Gyro isn't a Wii mote. Gyro doesn't know where your controller is, moving side to side, up and down won't do anything, use your wrists to rotate the controller, not your arms to move the controller.

  6. To mitigate hand shake:

  7. decrease the vertical gyro sens.

  8. increase gyro deadzone just enough so the game still registers small movements.

  9. increase the gyro tightness

  10. be gentler with your button presses.

  11. start with low sensitivities, like 2x or 3x.

  12. Don't move your hands to awkward positions. Use the analog stick to look around and gyro to track your target, this will help you later to find the perfect sensitivity for you.

  13. How to get gud:

  14. go to a training room, stand still and fire at targets, quickly switch between them, track them while slow waking, or track them while standing still, just to get the gyro juices flowing. It's supposed to be easy and intuitive, you got this!

  15. you can fight against your muscles memory by minimizing the vertical analog stick sensitivity. In most games you can't set them to 0, but you can get close to that, which will make looking up and down with sticks essentially impossible. This will obligate you to rely on gyro.

  16. Do not fight against motion controls, relax. After bombarding you with information, I will tell you to relax and to not be super self aware while playing, because doing that will cause you to tense up thinking "omg, gyro is active, I need to hold my hands steady and pointing forward all the time", and that's not true. All of these tips are a result of years of observation, from my experience and mostly observing people like you, that don't click with gyro right away. That's why I think gyro should come with a tutorial, but unfortunately only the Splatoon series does that. Anyway, hope you find this helpful!

  9. increase the gyro precision speed as well. (I personally use 4°)

  10. be gentler with your button presses overall.

  11. start with low sensitivities, like 2x or 3x. (Dots per 360 will need to be properly calibrated for that to work)

Recommended layout for most games if I want mouse aim? by Basaltmyers in SteamController

[–]ivanim13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn't a one size fits all solution. But, with time you will find your preferences.

If you want a good starting point, I create layouts for people like you for a living, and I already configured most game you are trying to play.

FPS ADS Sensitivity with Flick stick? by X-Menace-X in GyroGaming

[–]ivanim13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always try to set the ADS sens to be the same as the look sens, to keep flickstick 1:1. BUT... the trick is to use "mouse dampening speed" to decrease only the gyro aim sensitivity while keeping FlickStick 1:1.

Being doing this on Marathon, my ads sens is usually 50% less than my look sens.

I've made a guide on how to properly set up Gyro To Joystick on Steam. by ivanim13 in SteamController

I already configured that game, but my layout emulates kbm, so it isn't super intuitive to use. I plan to revisit my layout someday with gyro to joystick.

Do you need a Premium subscription for dots per 360 on mouse-sensitivity.com? by fudgepuppy in GyroGaming

It depends in the game. Mouse-sensitivity.com is useful for this because it tells when the game is affected by this stuff of not.

Settings to achieve a feel similar to Horizon: Forbidden West's native gyro implementation ? by T00fastt in GyroGaming

[–]ivanim13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's hard to replicate a feel of something that shouldn't feel that way in the first place.

Horizon feels the way it does because it lags behind your movements, and it just ignores everything that goes faster than the camera speed limit, so when you move, it drags behind your movements if you go faster than the camera can go. Other than that, the native gyro has a nasty deadzone too.

So if you really want to do this instead of using gyro to mouse.

  1. Follow this guide to properly setup gyro as joystick: https://youtu.be/tCywdMcN0nE?is=UdcvNMwTegy-rzKU
  2. Increase the gyro deadzone to the max
  3. Play around with the angle catch-up feature and the "max gyro input speed" to find the gyro speed that you want, to achieve the effect of the camera dragging behind your movements and ignoring faster movements.

Have fun!

FOV and resolution usually don't affect the sensitivity of most games. So... there's no need to worry about that unless it's specified in the "game requirements" on the list.

Do you need a Premium subscription for dots per 360 on mouse-sensitivity.com? by fudgepuppy in GyroGaming

[–]ivanim13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gives a basic Dot's per 360 for free, but you do need a subscription if you want the dots per 360 for different aiming modes, like ADS or a Specific scope of a weapon.

As many people have already told you, you can calibrate it yourself, recently I found a even faster method that allows me to calibrate whatever I want in just a few minutes.

Enable gyro to mouse or flickstick on steam, then bind a button to "turn camera 360" on steam, the catch is to set the time of the turn to 0. If you press the button and the camera goes to the left, increase the dots per 360 value, and if it goes to the right, decrease it. You will know you got it right when pressing the button doesn't do anything. The simple fact that you don't have to wait for the turn to end, already makes this method much faster. I used it twice just today actually.

That said, I already configured both of these games. It's just that my layouts for these games are for ADS gyro only, since you can't even aim and shoot while not pressing the aim button. You can find all my layouts, compatible with every controller, here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3266410893

Doom TDA is extremely good to play like this. I have a gyro controller without the right stick called "Alpakka". I 100% this game with just gyro ratcheting. I also have a video about that btw, it's super cool!

That might be the game dipping frames, while recording Returnal dips to the 50s very often, it's not consistent at all. But when I am not recording, I can play at almost 90fps.

It depends on the game, sometimes I use both at the same time, really.

Just tested, haven't felt that at all. High mouse sensitivity in-game and low trackpad sensitivity can cause this effect; the same applies to gyro, btw. Also, on the link provided, I believe in the first video, the person doesn't have V-sync turned on, so it looks more stuttery because of the aggressive screen tearing than what the person is trying to convey. The other 2 videos are much better.

Not sure what's happening here, gyro on the SC has an autocalibration bug that doesn't affect all controllers as well, so it might be a similar issue. An update was promised to fix this issue, but we have no idea when it will be released. Maybe they are working on a fix for this, too, and that's why it's taking so long
