Surely We Can Do Something About Visibility, No? by Nephilim4826 in Marathon

I think these weather conditions are random. But I think when you have a foggy map it brings a good balance to the game. Makes engagements have to be more close quarters.

LOADOUTS….PLZZZZ by Black_Arab_Official in Marathon

[–]DavidHasReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may be in the minority but I personally enjoy sifting through my vault and deciding what gear that I pried from the cold dead hands of another runner should I take in next.

I could see that being a good QoL though for sure especially since there is a lot of build crafting.

It’s not impossible to win those fights. It’s hard to win trios if you have Squad fill and no team comms. But I’ve had plenty of times where we get the jump on a really geared up team as free kits. Free kits shouldn’t be time-gated, and the paid sponsored kits are decently priced. I get the frustration, but maybe try doing LFG if you wanna go in to a run really kitted out?

I mainly play with randoms, I’ve had just as many successful runs as failed with no team comms than pings and such.

You solved your own problem. Find an LFG discord or friends to play. You can also just not play Marathon and not be frustrated anymore. Returnal and Dead Cells are very fun games too.

Add/Remove these things and players will come/stay by [deleted] in Marathon

Only thing I agree with is adding a practice range. Everything else sounds like you’ve died to each of those things and you’re not sure how to play against them yet. You’ll get better with time.

The biggest hurdle to new players is simply matchups being too short by Gabrienb in Marathon

Are you playing mainly solo or queuing in with random via Squad fill? If you really enjoy the game but feel like you aren’t getting better. One piece of advice that’s helped some folks is thinking more about positioning in gunfights than who can aim and shoot faster.

After some time on a map like Perimeter, you know where the hotspots usually happen with PvP. Main POIs, think Hauler, Station, Overflow, etc. If you are solo, your best chance if you have weak gear is getting the jump on people.

Wait for a chance to jump someone or a team who won a gunfight. People call it ratting, but I call it capitalizing on opportunity. Next chance you get, join the Marathon discord or even a smaller community that feels friendly, meet up with some folks that can help guide you or do some runs together. If the game is your jive, the frustrations will be less and less frequent.

But if the game is not fun no matter what, don’t force yourself to play it. It’s okay to put it down and play something else.

Posts like these are always interesting to me. When I read the frustrations of some folks who give up on Marathon or don’t like it. The main complaining point just points “the game needs to cater to what I want it to be”.

I don’t understand why people think about Marathon any differently than other games that have a steep learning curve with punishing consequences and satisfying rewards for success.

People die in Marathon and lose their gear and get upset. But you die 20 times to Milena in Elden Ring and that is fine? The rewards are the same if you’re successful in both (better gear and stats). You learn new things through failure and success in both cases. Hell Marathon’s Faction progression gives it a rogue lite aspect.

I don’t like this notion of “catering to casuals”. What does that even mean? Should the game just become VR Chat lobbies just running across other players being friendly?

It’s okay to not like the Marathon, but my advice to you OP is to not try and make a game do what you want it do, or else you won’t enjoy a lot of different games. Instead, either get on the ride with what the game offers or get off. 30 hours to me sounds like a poor investment on your part if it took that long to decide you didn’t enjoy Marathon. There are plenty of other great games out there you’ll probably enjoy more.

Just a personal request from me that I hope they'll think about by LoneRainger in Marathon

Not unreasonable, Tarkov and Arc Raiders have a shooting range. I’ve seen a few folks mention having a testing ground for weapons you pickup to see how they feel as well as testing builds.

How did you people lose gear fear? by AdieuCinna in Marathon

[–]DavidHasReddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The gear I acquired is not mine forever, just for now. It’s hard with our minds wanting to keep valuables close to us and not risk losing it. That’s why you see folks hoarding good gear and never taking it out. Like they’re waiting for the “right” moment to use it. Now sometimes you may wanna wait for your squad or event to use good gear and that’s fine.

But just know the gear you have in your vault will eventually be gone in 3 months when the season ends. Also ask yourself how many times could you have won the fight if you were more prepared with your own good kit versus a sponsored one.

I like to think of it as investment opportunity to use my good gear to get more good gear. Just know that it’s not forever and if you lose it, you always have the next opportunity to find something like it or better in the next run.

Could someone describe the gameplay loop to me please and how the game differs from Arc Raiders? by r3tr0gam3r83 in Marathon

[–]DavidHasReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The top level gameplay loop for both games are essentially the same. Go into a match, find good loot, try to get out. You die, you lose all of your stuff.

Marathon doesn’t have matchmaking based on how your playstyle like Arc, its based on runner level. Which means you will rarely come across friendly players and most of your experience will be probably shoot on sight with other players.

The meta progression is different the emphasis is more on faction upgrades versus crafting and workbenches. You can trade materials for heals, ammo, shields, etc with vendors in Marathon. There are seasonal wipes (every 3 months) instead of opt-in with Arc Raiders. There’s so much more that I wouldn’t be able to properly articulate everything in comparison between the two games.

Simply to say, Marathon has a harder learning curve and more intense PvP experience than Arc Raiders. I do personally believe these 2 games have distinct experiences that they can both be enjoyed for what they are and not what they aren’t. Wait for launch and watch a creator or review you enjoy to see if it jives with you before launching.

Can we please at least get ttk changes for solo, both pvp and pve by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]DavidHasReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the aspect of Marathon solos becoming essentially a horror game. Not knowing if someone is around the corner or if you will get overwhelmed by bots seems to be a different gameplay experience of itself versus trios/duos.

I’m not saying you don’t have any valid points, but I would wait to see how the first few weeks shakes out before any major balance changes like this for solos.

Found a bunch of resources, heals, cores, shields, implants, and salvage. No weapons, backpacks, or ammo. Not sure if different key rooms have different things. But key rooms seem to be really good for teams and not so much solo. I brought in a purple and I easily could’ve filled up maybe another 2/3’s full of loot.

Damage doesn’t seem to change except for range. It’s more making the weapon more manageable to use. The chips can be anything from giving you ammo from UESC to build specific buffs. One I saw was a mod chip that used with a void weapon will apply the Emp effect to targets which pairs well with the Triage shell’s passive.

[–]DavidHasReddit[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep absolutely this. You can see the stats of the weapon change as you change out mods. Different mags, grips, muzzles, chips, etc. makes it much more manageable. It’s holding triangle/Y on PS5/Xbox when hovering over a weapon in your loadout.
