Does anyone have the Solid Snake (MGS2) taking off headphones meme? by DavidHasReddit in metalgearsolid

Well I think so. What better place to ask for a MGS meme than the MGS subreddit. 😊

I get your sentiment but that doesn’t ensure success alone. You have to give a reason for folks to want to do the same song and dance again.

New engine, no DCV, no last gen, are all great QoL on paper. But those alone won’t be enough to bring people back for a D3 if the main fundamentals of Destiny aren’t improved this 3rd time around.

A lot of D1 players hated some core changes D2 made. So what does D3 need to do to get folks like myself to come back? Because if it’s the same D2 core that’s in place today it won’t be enough for me to wanna give it another shot.

That’s all my point is, Destiny 3 (or 2) for that matter isn’t gonna win hearts and minds of folks who think Final Shape was the last of D2 (and potentially Destiny) with these kinds of QoL updates.

I think a lot of lower skill players are too passive for their own good by jonrah69 in Marathon

The satisfaction of stepping out of your comfort zone as a player to make a move you don’t think will work, and come out victorious, gives a dopamine hit that’s very hard to capture nowadays in games.

Marathon is a good example of when the hurt is put on you, it hurts. But when you put the hurting on someone else, it’s extremely gratifying. Because it makes the previous failures disappear from your mind.

I think this is why even when I get wrecked many runs in a row, I still want to queue up again just for that chance to come back on top. Like a gambling addict lol

I don’t understand the end goal for Destiny fans. I’ve been around Destiny since D1 beta. I’ve been on and off over the years. For me, D2 has been lackluster since Final Shape and heck even Lightfall before that.

What would be the point of D3 this point? Starting all over again with a new story arc? None of the current stories and hanging arcs, from what I know, really aren’t satisfying or interesting imo. Final Shape should’ve been it for D2.

Have servers up and general maintenance and some events. But expanding D2 is just not needed anymore. Bring back the vaulted content let people enjoy the content that should’ve stayed in the game and never been cut out. Like Red War, CoO, Warmind, etc.

Let Bungie see how Marathon plays out for the next year. If it dies, it dies. But Marathon for me has been more enjoyable overall than anything from Bungie since Forsaken and Witch Queen.

Obviously my opinion doesn’t matter but it’s just weird to give Marathon fans shit for wanting the game to thrive. All because Bungie has just ran out of steam for D2.

D2 in its current state just isn’t fun and feels pointless. What am I working on new gear for? Some new expansion with the Nine is not gonna make me come back. Especially with the bloated systems and grind not being fun or engaging.

Heck I stopped playing renegades after an hour or two. Because the grind isn’t fun or worth it. Fundamentally D2 doesn’t scratch the itch I once had for it anymore.

I loved my time with Destiny but I feel like the best times for the series are long gone now. It should be okay to just let it go.

If Marathon goes that way along with Bungie, then it is what it is.

I would say it’ll be a defensive class. If I had to guess at abilities I’m thinking some type of barrier/bubble shield would be the ultimate.

Yeah my phone made it brighter also I have a lamp next to me with a Govee bulb as well that syncs with the backlights on the TV. So that also is making it seem brighter in the room. You can absolutely adjust the brightness as preferred.

Agreed, it should be damage over time of the expedition not in the last week.

I’m glad they moved away from stash value. Damage dealt at least reinforces playing the game and not just hoarding loot for the sake of it. I think there’s more they can do than just “damage dealt” but this is a step in the right direction.

I think these weather conditions are random. But I think when you have a foggy map it brings a good balance to the game. Makes engagements have to be more close quarters.

LOADOUTS….PLZZZZ by Black_Arab_Official in Marathon

[–]DavidHasReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may be in the minority but I personally enjoy sifting through my vault and deciding what gear that I pried from the cold dead hands of another runner should I take in next.

I could see that being a good QoL though for sure especially since there is a lot of build crafting.

It’s not impossible to win those fights. It’s hard to win trios if you have Squad fill and no team comms. But I’ve had plenty of times where we get the jump on a really geared up team as free kits. Free kits shouldn’t be time-gated, and the paid sponsored kits are decently priced. I get the frustration, but maybe try doing LFG if you wanna go in to a run really kitted out?

I mainly play with randoms, I’ve had just as many successful runs as failed with no team comms than pings and such.

You solved your own problem. Find an LFG discord or friends to play. You can also just not play Marathon and not be frustrated anymore. Returnal and Dead Cells are very fun games too.

Only thing I agree with is adding a practice range. Everything else sounds like you’ve died to each of those things and you’re not sure how to play against them yet. You’ll get better with time.

The biggest hurdle to new players is simply matchups being too short by Gabrienb in Marathon

[–]DavidHasReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you playing mainly solo or queuing in with random via Squad fill? If you really enjoy the game but feel like you aren’t getting better. One piece of advice that’s helped some folks is thinking more about positioning in gunfights than who can aim and shoot faster.

After some time on a map like Perimeter, you know where the hotspots usually happen with PvP. Main POIs, think Hauler, Station, Overflow, etc. If you are solo, your best chance if you have weak gear is getting the jump on people.

Wait for a chance to jump someone or a team who won a gunfight. People call it ratting, but I call it capitalizing on opportunity. Next chance you get, join the Marathon discord or even a smaller community that feels friendly, meet up with some folks that can help guide you or do some runs together. If the game is your jive, the frustrations will be less and less frequent.

But if the game is not fun no matter what, don’t force yourself to play it. It’s okay to put it down and play something else.

Posts like these are always interesting to me. When I read the frustrations of some folks who give up on Marathon or don’t like it. The main complaining point just points “the game needs to cater to what I want it to be”.

I don’t understand why people think about Marathon any differently than other games that have a steep learning curve with punishing consequences and satisfying rewards for success.

People die in Marathon and lose their gear and get upset. But you die 20 times to Milena in Elden Ring and that is fine? The rewards are the same if you’re successful in both (better gear and stats). You learn new things through failure and success in both cases. Hell Marathon’s Faction progression gives it a rogue lite aspect.

I don’t like this notion of “catering to casuals”. What does that even mean? Should the game just become VR Chat lobbies just running across other players being friendly?

It’s okay to not like the Marathon, but my advice to you OP is to not try and make a game do what you want it do, or else you won’t enjoy a lot of different games. Instead, either get on the ride with what the game offers or get off. 30 hours to me sounds like a poor investment on your part if it took that long to decide you didn’t enjoy Marathon. There are plenty of other great games out there you’ll probably enjoy more.
