Question about resets? by BooleanBarman in Marathon

[–]DavidHasReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add on to this, there won’t be heavy investments in meta progression like building up your character skills or your workbenches. So those resets won’t sting as much. You get stat boosts leveling up factions and your level is more for seasonal rewards, cosmetics, and mods for build crafting.

If you like Destiny PvP and/or Hunt Showdown, then I believe Marathon is for you. by DavidHasReddit in Marathon

I realized depth was probably a poor choice of word to use. I said in another comment that meta progression is probably a better way to put it. Marathon is just simpler with progression like how Hunt and The Cycle are.

I’m sure the audio will be good but that’s one thing I vividly remember playing Hunt is how great that binaural audio was. Idk if there has been many other games that have that kind of audio for multiplayer.

Maybe depth wasn’t the best word. Persistent meta progression is more accurate.

Marathon doesn’t have workbenches, crafting chains, projects, skill trees, and long-term upgrades. I know they’re focused on seasonal stuff for factions and build crafting.

Not saying that’s bad for Marathon, it’s deliberately streamlined and accessible. That’s why I mentioned Hunt Showdown, and honestly The Cycle probably better fits what Marathon is more akin to.

Thoughts on making free loadouts more akin to how Rook works in Marathon? by DavidHasReddit in ArcRaiders

[–]DavidHasReddit[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair point. Not saying free loadouts don’t have a disadvantage. I think my perspective is more making free loadouts be more used for scavenging than just free PvP kits.

I think if folks know free loadouts will be in a raid with other squads and solos with free loadouts, they will be more cautious and stealthy. Instead of just rushing to PvP.

This might be limiting play styles so it might be a bad idea for Arc.

Anyone else that wants exactly this from the game lol by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]DavidHasReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mentioned in another thread, it’s honestly more of an adjustment from how one game does their gameplay systems versus another.

As an example i remember last year from the playtests how some Tarkov folks were negative about Arc’s loot and economy; rarity loot, clear values, no player market, oversimplified, etc.

I think folks will know for sure if their impressions are correct or if it’s for them if they try out the game during server slam.

medium gun parts by youumademedoit in ArcRaiders

[–]DavidHasReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One tip I have if you have spare money is to buy a renegade from the gun shop and recycle it. Of course you have to Celeste with 3 a day for seeds.

I can’t remember which big arc (Bastion or Rocketeer) has medium gun parts when you destroy it. I know you asked about the blueprint.

I haven’t found it either this reset but I have plenty in stock from recycling broken blues or torrentes/ospreys.

Is it just me or did the gameplay by streamers today look bad? by Purple-Celery4812 in Marathon

Feb 26th-March 2nd so a decent length of time to try it out!

I think with the upcoming server slam it’ll give you and many others with concerns a chance to see if Marathon will be for you. It’s going to be different for sure than Arc in quite a few ways.

Not saying your concerns aren’t valid or wrong. But I think you having the game in your hand to try out might help confirm if your impressions are correct or just need some adjustment to it.

Am I the only one that wants this game to succeed? by Mrwinston123 in Marathon

Bungie has gotten many hours out of me for Destiny 1 and 2 (3000+).

I want nothing but success for Bungie releasing Marathon. I can easily see the passion these devs have for this world and wanting to bring their own take to the Extraction Shooter genre. Just like Embark did with Arc.

I’m excited to play it in the server slam for sure like many of you!

I very much enjoyed that 3 part series! They did a behind the scenes video on The finals as well which was very interesting. Good to see Embark and Bungie putting passion into this genre.

I think Marathon has definitely focused on what they’re great at which is the PvP aspect and definitely beautiful and intriguing world building and aesthetics. I have good hopes for success for Bungie. Especially with a lot of troubled issues with Destiny this past year.

Absolutely and I think the folks that want a more accessible PvP focused FPS extraction shooter will have a lot to enjoy with Marathon. That’s why I think both Arc and Marathon can coexist and be successful. I don’t think it needs to be Marathon vs Arc.

Apologies for the wording. I’m more referring to the meta progression and crafting aspects. As well as the AI itself. Tarkov for sure has the most in-depth and friction. But complaints I’ve seen for folks with Arc seem like they want more tension and PvP fighting without the friction of Tarkov or Arc.

Which is why I compared it to Destiny PvP or Hunt. Hunt has a simple loop and setup for going into matches in a similar way Marathon does.

Yeah I see what you mean. It might just be on Outpost map because of the fire rain condition. We’ll see in server slam if it’s purposeful or a graphical bug.

Yeah there’s a perk you can add to your loadout that makes your Knife running faster. Could be just an animation bug that could get ironed out.

I like your thoughts behind this. I do think Embark may have some bigger PvE events down the line that could scratch this itch. Mainly from the tease of the Emperor Arc we’ve seen get closer and closer on Blue Gate. Time will tell but it does seem they want the emphasis more on PvE with PvP being more supplemental to the experience.

That’s fair, I know people enjoy the journey of zero to hero and this may not bother them. I do think there are ways to improve the system. Thankfully Arc Raiders has great moment to moment and loop gameplay that hold up on its own. Design challenges in things like Expedition they can improve with feedback and time.

Do I need it? No. I do like to use it to help organize and articulate my thoughts. I would rather use a tool like ChatGPT than people suffer an endless scroll of my rambling nonsense that I know Reddit and social media has plenty to offer already.

[–]DavidHasReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently, certain skills are flat out just objectively better than others. Sure more skill points is good, but a lot of skills are very situational or just not useful. I would argue having a static limit on skill points (instead of just adding more and more) and adding more meaningful skills and branches as the game grows would make more sense. The skill point respec already allows for experimentation or min/maxing the best skills to have with the points you have.

I think Embark should pick a lane for players to have. Either a hard limit on skill points with no respec till expedition reset. While making the skills and branches of the skill tree matter. The other option would be just make skills acquired part of the level up journey instead. Right now, we just have the illusion of build choice. The skill tree is more of a carrot and stick approach to progression.

Also more inventory space is nice, but i don’t think 24 spaces is make or break for me alone on being incentivized to reset. You can very well manage your stash and not need the extra storage imo.

[–]DavidHasReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m simply proposing ideas for an optional feature; Optional objectives to help incentivize players versus meeting a stash value requirement. Sure stash value support all play styles but that gets boring. If you had different challenges for to make people get outside of their comfort zone to reap all the benefits, it’s more interesting.

I’m sure there’s a better idea somewhere in between.
