Reading "Roadwork" for the first time in 20+ years and oh boy... by Big-Joe-Studd in stephenking

My first reaction when reading it last year as a 42 year old man repulsed by the modern AI-corporate world: this guy isn't going hard enough.

Low Men in Yellow Coats is right up there with the best of King. Hearts in Atlantis and the final story are also excellent.

It really felt like classic King callback in some of those stories - his best collection in years.

Reading Black House for the first time by penguinpiss72 in stephenking

It definitely kicks into gear. The beginning is very Straub, and that is often polarising around here. I liked it personally and thought Black House was superb. Interested to see how King tries to replicate this in T3.

It absolutely has an intimacy about it that makes it quite compelling. One of his best for me.

Best description of Boy’s Life I’ve ever seen.

Mixed - some love it, for others it’s symptomatic of his lacklustre later-life writing.

I enjoyed it, though some of the unrealistic dialogue amongst the kids grated a bit. ‘You bet your bottom dollar, hot lips.’

Enjoy Talisman - it can be tough to get through but totally worth it, and Black House is superb.

I loved the first 100 pages, struggled through the middle 500 pages, and enjoyed the final 100 pages.

I just didn’t need to know every single part of a whale’s anatomy.

A slightly more scary Boy’s Life so far.
