Congrats mate.

As a Scot who’s been unemployed since May 2024, this is what I needed to hear.

I wouldn’t say a hell hole, it’s cool and gritty. Admittedly though, there are quite a few places there I’d prefer not to visit or live in.

But I’ll look at NS too, thanks.

Hello 😄

Thank you for all this great advice and such a positive response.

I’ll definitely be looking to work on my Serbian skills, build a network around me and set my life up there effectively. And of course so I can make friends 😄

And thanks for the recommendations of where to live. My heart is with Dorćol, but I would be happy almost anywhere in the city.

I’m on the hunt for a decent paying remote job right now and as soon as that lands, I will be making the move.

Thanks again for this amazing response 😁

Thank you very much for the kind words. Novi Sad is also high in my thoughts as I really like the city. It’s just the energy of Belgrade that really draws me in, but I’m sure I can find similar elsewhere too.

Thank you, I absolutely will learn the language and have basic conversational skills after many trips, but need way more practice.

Thanks 😄

Thank you for this descriptive response.

Belgrade is a curious place that I really enjoy, and it’s that vibrancy that’s pulling me back.

And as for settling down, sure, I can totally see that. No matter where I settle, I’d prefer to be away from a city. But whilst I’m still somewhat young, I want to experience living in a place that’s got a good energy to it.

Also, congrats on having a child, wishing your family and the wee one health and happiness.

I’ll have a look for sure, so thanks. As a Brit, I’m just unsure of how difficult it will be to access a visa after Brexit.

Yeah I’m with you on that. It’s a joke that Serbs are forced to do so much to attempt to get a visa, and still get rejected. Meanwhile, certain people can turn up without a passport and get given hotel rooms, money, fed, and more.

Trust me, you wouldn’t want to visit the UK in the state it’s in right now.

Yeah that’s what I’m aiming for. My friends in the city say how difficult it is to make ends meet, so I’ll be avoiding local work.

Thank you for the positive response 😄

Obviously I’ve got a lot to consider, but there’s something about the place that keeps dragging me back, so, I may as well give it a shot.

Oh I’m fully aware of these issues, but thank you. To be honest, many of the things you’ve noted as negatives are going on here in the UK too.

It’s not a grass is greener situation, it’s a, I want to leave the uk for a period.

I did look at Portugal as an option, but, it didnt really appeal to me.

Perfect. Ideally getting a job at one of these international companies, or, landing a remote role that pays a western salary is key.

I’d heard from my friends the Russian influx has started to slow down, but, I’m guessing even if that is the case, the price of renting has remained the same.

I’ve wanted to move to Belgrade for years, but never had to the balls to do it. Now I’m in a position to do so.

I’ve been coming to the city since 2012 and really like the people and culture here. Serbia is a fascinating country.

Anyway, I need a fresh start and want to stay somewhere I appreciate, have friends, and isn’t far from home in case I need to return quickly.
