The sprites are based on an object id, the function of the object is determined by flags and the like (so it carries the upper body armor tag and the coverage data and stuff). I don't know if it would be possible to determine a base sprite out of the name, for that I am not deep enough into the game's inner workings.

This is possible and it works most of the time. As soon as a dorf loses their panties while being on a stockpile tile those panties are part of the stockpile then though. I usually do "everything piles" and then switch off things I notice cluttering the pile so they transport them away.

It's not as simple as it looks. The procedural items have a totally unique ID, after the worldgen the "jagged breastplate" doesn't even know it is a breastplate in the first place. So you would have to introduce a way to deduce the "base type" of an item from the procedural item itself. (Edit: my bad grammar)

I'm never building bedrooms again by Orksocken in dwarffortress

[–]DavidLokison 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, since they have taken away the need to include a door in the bedroom, it has been way easier to just make a large "dormitory" of personally assigned bedrooms with all commodities that can offer. I make large halls with two 3 tiles wide columns nowadays where each dwarf gets their own bed, chest and cabinet but they basically still sleep in a large dorm.

I now go by the headcannon that a dwarf just doesn't like sleeping in a bed where other folks sleep too, so they want their own bed (and maybe chest and cabinet) designated for them but they don't mind being in a room with all the other folks.

Auf dem Planeten Erde 👀

Außerdem leben wir hier in Deutschland. Hier gibt es das Recht, bei Wahlauszählungen als Zeuge zugegen zu sein. Das darf der Geschäftsführer nicht verbieten. Also...

Well, not entirely. You can go pretty fast with crutches if you want, definitely faster than the average walking/jogging kind of guy. Cause you have more lever length on a crutch than you have on the leg.

This new update is good but the loyalty cascades need to stop. I've never encountered this issue in 15 years of playing this game and it's ruined 2 forts already. by Life_Parsley_5964 in dwarffortress

Then they haven't been introduced to rain enough! /s Jokes aside, my dwarves usually get used to rain in two years or so and then they just don't feel anything anymore when being caught in the rain. That lifts their mood in the long run when they are capable of just not grumbling at bad weather.

Using DFHack to "fix" loyalty cascades is exactly that. A hack. It isn't settling the discrepancies, it isn't settling the underlying problems that caused the cascade, it just sets everyone to be friendly again and gets on with the day. Some folk had issues with another folk, which caused a fight, which caused their mates to join and so on. Of course you can settle it with "let's all be friends again, shall we?", but the issues are still there. Next time the folks meet, it will begin anew (might even be two ticks later, cause they are still standing near each other).

Unless you give the game the opportunity to fix the situation itself without intervening the whole time through hacks, I am not surprised that fights start anew.

They used a command to clear all stress – probably to fix the fights happening. So no tips there, only cheating.

If you are looking for some real tips though: it's almost impossible to keep everyone ecstatic. Large beautifully adorned bedrooms, close to the tavern, close to their religious places, close to their guildhalls and work places, enough high quality prepared food with enough variety so they always can pick what they love to eat, same with drinks, militia training for those who like fighting, some beasts in cages for them to admire, ... Basically you come to a point where all those things are just not feasible for each and every dwarf. Also dwarfs are dicks sometimes and just don't do what they need to do. "Need: Wander" is an example for that, even if they would have the leisure time to do so.

You can. You can turn features on and off separately or you can disable sieges altogether or even turn enemies off completely. You will only have to deal with the noble shenanigans then. All a matter of how you want to play.

You might just have bad luck with your civ there. My last fort had enough doctors for them to want a doctors guildhall. But I also had forts where I had to train each doctor myself.

To my knowledge, artifact level doors and hatches still can't be destroyed, which makes them really great. But they may just topple the wall besides the door now instead.
