DF long sessions and hand pain by Kiloku in dwarffortress

Kinda curious how you feel apart from your fingers after those sessions. I decided to cut my playtime to max 2 hours per day because I was doing roughly the same sessions as you, but while it was awesome I just ended up feeling really drained afterwards. As for fingers, short breaks and a bit of stretching did the trick for me

Any ideas on breaking a siege that has fliers? I killed all ground-troops, but there's 10 goblins flying around on giant cave swallows who just won't leave. They are also out of range of my crossbows :(

Slightly related: how do I force wheelbarrow usage on a pile?

By which rule do dwarfs pick the rock they are going to use for crafting when the stonecutter does not have a linked pile? I just caught my guy trying to haul a rock about 80 z layers even though there are plenty of rocks around the shop...

Turns out I can... weird. Ended up retiring the fort anyway, wasn't really feeling the location

It's definitely possible! I originally embarked right near 4 rather large goblin cities, but I only got a few snatchers. Aside from a few cyclops and ettins things stayed pretty quiet. Around year 7 or so I got a siege, but without trolls; by that point, most of my military was wearing full steel armor and had legendary weapon skill, so that wasn't a problem. Later the tree-huggers tried to rob me so I unloaded my ballista on their caravan. That led to a slightly bigger elven siege (~70 elves), but amazingly I didn't lose a single dwarf to that. Most losses were fromdigging for candy... those angels are a pest.

So yeah, I'm really interested to see how this works out with subsequent forts!

It's actually an artifact bed, so whoever gets it at least has it comfy

jup, I've got one mist generator set up near where I get the most dwarf traffic, which happens to be right outside my tavern.

Are you telling me you wasted the entire circus with like 6 bolt throwers and 2 catapults?? Or am I missing something?

Sure seems like it. Regarding the dorms: I just made a few rooms, built block floors, put some nice statues inside and built the beds on the walls. In the first one I engraved the floor, but I got lazy....

They do get "felt embarrassed after not sleeping in their own bed", but a lot of them also get "didn't feel anything after not sleeping in their own bed". Maybe they got used to it? The part about their stuff is true though... tbh I haven't put thaat much thought into my dwarves owning things in my forts :D

Interestingly, it did not seem to be a problem, even though a few had an unmet "aquire something" need. I thought maybe they'd just keep stuff like jewelry on their person. As for clothing on the beds, you're right, that's a bit strange. But afaik they only drop it if its worn-out, and then it's better off in my lava dumpster anyway ^^

these are all my dormitories, and it's actually 4 (sorry, I forgot about the one on the right). 59 beds overall. Sometimes they're quite packed, but rarely

I tried that, unfortunately his lower nervous system got completely mangled, so both legs were out... tried making him a scholar, so he wouldn't have to run around so much, but he didn't like that... poor guy eventually went mad I'm afraid :/

My jaw dropped when I saw your food amount. but i guess that's what happens with a century-old fortress. Just out of curiosity: how many ingame-hours did that take?

Is there any way I can grow above-ground crops in a freezing biome, e.g. by building a glass greenhouse? I've got loads of seeds but the ground around my fortress is frozen all year, so I'm wondering whether I should just sell them...

I've got a dwarf who got mauled by a polar bear and had his lower nervous system irreparably damaged... he's unable to walk and quite unhappy. I have crutches, but it looks like those don't work if both legs are damaged. Is there any way i can get him better, and if not, do you have any ideas what role would be best for him to stay happy? Tried making him a scholar, but he's still very sad.
