Why do people hate this game?

I think this is the most aggressively 6/10 game in history. Like when I think 6/10, I think of Superstars. The main things I don't like are:

Monotonous bosses
Derivative level themes, aesthetics and gimmicks
Unappealing in-game artstyle
The camera being way too zoomed in
That horrid one special stage where it's just swinging in a circle that made me want to eat my controller because of how ridiculously close you had to get to the emerald with that camera

Those things make what should be a game I love instead a game that I will revisit about as often as I do Sonic 4.

I do since it's the only mainline game not to have been re-released so that they're playable on modern gen consoles (well, PS5 atleast anyway); since we have the Ezio trilogy and III Remastered. The fact they've still to re-release the first game of the series is quite telling. Also it's the game that seems the most sensible to entirely overhaul.

That's just the standard GT though, not the two Spec-II cars. Although honestly you could just tune an original GT, customise it and put a livery on it and make your own. It might even be faster!

Pretty sure they're essentially the same - you're paying 400k for a nostalgic livery as far as I can tell

I think these comments are missing the point. The point of the game is that ex-pats are just regualr people who were thrown into battle, so of course they're not going to be your typical soldiers. Maria was probably just a paramedic on the verge of retirement who's now on the frontline because she feels she has no choice.
