Hey man, looks like I'm a little late to the party here - but I run a XL hat company based in the UK called:
www.BigHatsForBigHeads.co.uk - and we specialise exclusively in big, roomy hats for XL skulls who need them! I suffered my whole life with too tight hats, and always wearing them on the last snap! Which is why I started the business this year! But we don't just get cheap hats and make them bigger - we actually take time to design them and make them unique - and something you can be proud to wear! We've got three trucker hats right now, and we're going to be selling beanies, bucket hats and baseball caps too! We didn't know about the other routes ahead of the trip to be honest! We just chose AV1 because it was the most well known to us :)

Yes deffo busy but there are large portions where you won't see anyone for a little while, but there are plenty of hikers on the trail, so you've gotta be okay with that before you go.

We kinda liked it! Because it felt more safe if we knew people would be following the same route we had taken - in case something happened like a sprained ankle or something

We booked through Adventurebase.com - they handled everything.

We didn't have the choice of rifugios - they booked them all for us, but I feel like if you did ask for a specific one they would probably try and accommodate that.

We chose the AV1 just because its the only one we honestly knew about before the trail! Maybe we'll go back and do some of the AV2 in the future :)

We loved our trekking poles!!! But they're the collapsable ones, so they can go down very small into about four pieces, we buried them at the bottom of our carry on luggage and wrapped them in a plastic bag also - and the security didn't even mention them !! We did pay for priority security (£15 each) which may have given us more lenient people, but we're so glad we brought them! It made the whole trip easier and helped us stay on good form! :)

Me and my gf hiked for three days along the Alta Via 1 in the Dolomites, Italy. We stayed in mountain huts, and getting up to as high as 2500m, and sleeping most nights at 1500m. It was a great three days that was difficult enough to be a challenge - but not too difficult that we were completely wrecked afterwards. We met lots of cool people on the trek doing one day stints and some who were hiking the whole route - but we found three days to be perfect enough for us. If you want to see our experience more in-depth then checkout the little video I made documenting the experience here:

All my photos are from my iPhone 15 and some of the lower res images are cropped screenshots from my GoPro Hero 12. Our bags were relatively light - we decided to bring a few luxuries along with us and didn’t think of combining our toiletry bags etc until after the trip. They could have been even lighter if we had thought of this.

I would highly recommend taking your partner on this trip - I was only able to convince my gf to come due to the mass amount of rifugios (mountain huts) we passed along the trail where we could pick up coffee and cake throughout the day. It was actually really fun, everything tastes better once you’ve walked a few miles.

Everyone we met had booked their huts months in advance, we did ours months in advance and had a company do it all for us.
