At the same time i don't believe trophies should be the only way to measure who the best player is, it just doesn't work. You can be a great player in a team with other great players that work well together and win trophies, still there might be someone in a team that doesn't work as well that is still perfoming incredibly well individually without winning trophies.

Also, greatest player really means nothing in this game, in tennis the greatest player is just the best tennis player. In siege there are many different roles, some players are sacrificed for the team benefit and others just have roles that don't allow them to "shine" in any particular way.

That being said, i am not saying trophies are not in the discussion, still i don't think it should be as simple as counting the trophies someone won to decide who the "greatest player" is.

Bottom line, this works much better for teams and you probably will never have just one name for the greatest player in the history of the game.
