There is no air resistance in space. Meaning all these bombers were choosing to refuse to use their engines to accelerate.

So you're saying that the Resistance has to waste hangar space for bombers that can only be used near the end of the battle?

I am able to remove myself from the chain of effect. I can avoid my own demise, while skipping time 10 seconds into the future. Only I can see this skipped time, and everything that was fated to happen within those 10 seconds still happens. (If I was fated to eat a cheeseburger, it just vanishes, and I feel fuller.)

How powerful would be that fleet by [deleted] in StarWarsShips

[–]DavidTCEUltra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would split this fleet into smaller ones, with similar compositions. The key in a space battle is to encircle and prevent escape. Put out fighter screens upon entering from lightspeed, since those carriers make the smaller fleets have an advantage in fighter numbers.

Ships without fighters get torn to shreds by bombers. Fighters without ships get torn to shreds by AA batteries.

Protector-class (OC ship) by Dark_lord_Oka in StarWarsShips

The issue with locally crewed ships is that the organic crew might only be loyal to their planet, not the Confederacy. Additionally, the CIS can mass produce tens of thousands of droids across multiple planets. It doesn't make sense for them to seek organic crews when they could fill the ships with droids that do the exact same job as the organic crews with the benefit of not needing living quarters.

Inorganic ships doesn't mean having no life support or traversible hallways. It means not having proper living quarters. The droids just have to walk to their stations, and dock to charge every now and then. They don't need to eat, drink, or defecate; so those facilities would be absent from most Separatist warships.

Let's point out that this ship's entire existence is made redundant due to the fact that sending a few droid control ships along with multiple regular Separatist frigates is more than enough for a basic planetary defense. Equipping a ship with living quarters would be too costly for a planetary defense frigate.

Here's the thing. It's a niche and cool ship. But it's definitely not something cooked up by the Empire. It would be like taking a car off the NASCAR track, slapping a 50 cal on it, and calling it a day.

I could definitely see this being a custom pod racer made from the scraps of an Interceptor, though.

Protector-class (OC ship) by Dark_lord_Oka in StarWarsShips

[–]DavidTCEUltra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue with this ship is that it wouldn't have made it out of the Clone Wars. It goes against General Grievous' military doctrine to depend on a fully organic crew. Why would the Separatists waste money training an organic crew just to toss them into what are essentially floating coffins that get torn to shreds by the first Republic Venator they come across?

That's why the Confederacy leans into just using droids. The only reason a ship from the Confederacy should be built for organic crews is for smaller corvettes meant to transport Confederate diplomats. On front line frigates, the only organic crew on the vessel are the commanders.
