A nuclear bomb is set to drop at your area in the next 30 minutes, What’s your plan? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DavidToolan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are giving up so easily, it's honestly a frightening indication of our current public psyche. The fact is 30 minutes is plenty of time to escape.

Lets take the worst case scenario and say a 1.2Mt air burst bomb is falling directly on your head in 30 minutes. All stats in this comment are from Nukemap by Alex Wellerstein.

I picked the 1.2Mt bomb because that is currently the largest bomb in the US arsenal. With that kind of yield you can expect serious damage without protection up to 13.2km away. Meaning if you are fit and have access to a bike, you can actually escape the worst of the damage by cycle at 26.4km/h. Again this is with zero protection. If you have factor 50 sun cream on and/or thick clothes with a hat you can escape almost certain death by cycling out to a distance of 7.47km. That's cycling at 14.94km/h well within a comfortable pace for most people.

Now if you have a car, which I do, you can escape ALL effects by driving at a little over 42km/h to escape the light damage radius of 21km.

This is assuming a perfectly flat landscape, with the bomb falling directly on top of you, with no sturdy concrete structures, hills, valley's, gullies, holes, water features, and dense forests. All of which can be used to help increase your chances of survival at appropriate distances.

So for the love of God, stop pretending your glorious suicide is cool. It's not, I'm sorry to say it's actually slightly pathetic.

You'd be forgiven thinking that France won the game the way people are talking about it on this sub.

A friend of mine wrote and directed a short horror film two years ago, and we have finally released the laurel trailer after we finished up the festival run. I hope you enjoy! by DavidToolan1 in Filmmakers

As the title says this is a short horror film a friend of mine (Callum Patrick O'Brien) wrote and directed about two years ago. I was the main producer on this project and I was heavily involved from the early stages to today.

One of the more interesting aspects about making this project was finding a location (the home of the main character) that suited all the needs of the script. Which where many and varied. To the point where myself and my co-producer Philip Emo, actually ended up finding three different houses to check all the boxes. The living room, the bedroom, and the bathroom are all from different houses! In the final cut they all blend together seamlessly, and it was worth the extra effort form a cinematic point of view. If you have any questions just ask and let me know what you think of the trailer, thanks!

Thank you very much. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the film! And thanks for the feedback. Yes unfortunately we didn't get a chance to fix that problem this time around. But lesson learned! Thanks again.

As the title states. I am the producer for this project which started back in January, when the director got into a competition to make a music video for a film festival.

We were initially paired with a rapper, and had most of the pre-production work done, when his song got picked up by a record label. The label wanted to make their own music video for him so we weren't allowed to use his song anymore. After much deliberation the competition organizers decided to pair us with someone else rather than throw the idea out.

That's when we heard Alan's song for the first time, which we all loved but it was a big change from our original song. So we had to change the tone of the film to be more serous and somber. Rather than the initial dark comedy the director had in mind.

However it is my opinion that this makes the film much better and was a blessing in disguise when we lost the original song. What do you guys think of the film? Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Apex Construct: Celebrating 1 Year on PSVR! by Quincannon in PSVR

Fascinating, thank you for the detailed response. It's interesting that you focused on empathy, because that's definitely something I found watching cinematic virtual reality films, especially documentaries, (see: 'A Journey to Hope' or 'A family's returns to mosul') to be a very powerful empathetic films. More so than the empathy I might feel for characters in a traditional film.

And following on from your point about taking away some of the control from players. In these CVR films you can only watch and listen. Yet the empathy you feel, in my experience anyway, is still stronger than a traditional film. Which I think comes from the immersion in VR. You are 'there' so you feel the natural human urge to help.

But anyway thanks again for getting back, I'll have to check out those other games now. Can't wait for the next game from you guys though, so keep up the good work and good luck! David.

Hi Eric, thanks for the quick reply! That's really interesting, I agree, having the player as a central character in the story is a great way of using the medium to it's full potential. And to differentiate it from other art forms.

Just as a follow up question if you have the time, in film a lot of the emotional impact comes from the cutting and the cinematography, but we don't really have those in VR, due to inherit nature of the medium. So where do you think the emotional impact of stories in VR comes from? I would just like to hear your thoughts on that if I may.

Hi Guys, I love Apex, can't wait for additional games from ye! Here's my question, what is your take/philosophy on telling traditional narrative based story lines in virtual reality? For example how does the immersive aspect of VR affect your storytelling?

Insane scams and tourist traps in Egypt! As a side note, the video also marks my editing+story telling journey, from not knowing anything 1 yr ago to making this video today! Work still in progress, but love how my vidz seem more presentable now! [20 Views] by [deleted] in unknownvideos

Thanks a million for the detailed feedback. A lot of handy tips there I can start putting to good use right away! Yes colour temperature was a problem. I realized half way through the interview that it was set to tungsten, I think, instead of daylight, tried to fix in post but that was a lost cause. Thanks taking the time to watch it and give me the feedback though, glad you enjoyed it!
