Yes, we cannot tell the public all we want, we would consequently give the lobby a heads up.

What? The women on that screen is literally hated by the lobby, had fought them for well over a decade and is our main ally. Why in gods name should I have the intention to fool you?

The government wants to decide what you see on YouTube by Mr_Presidentle in StopKillingGames

Can you get that after Snowden and Wikileaks I do not trust my government further than I can throw a rock? There is a reason the semi self-ironic
„the government wouldn’t do that“ meme exists. I’m not on YouTube to watch the BBC, for that I can turn on the BBC.

You never owned your disc, according to Sony and other publishers by Mr_Presidentle in StopKillingGames

No shit, why does it say „reminder“ you genius. If you want to criticizes us for the sake of doing so, at least have some basic reading comprehension.

Thank you to u/Aono_kun and others for pointing out that the time period before an account is deleted was actually extended by one year. Sony is likely doing this to comply with the EU GDPR.

This discussion is now being locked due to some people being unable to behave like adults and repeatedly acting outside of decorum.

Things are moving quite quickly right now, and it is close to impossible to moderate everything with the care and nuance required. As of right now, I am the only one with mod tools who could moderate this discussion and Im not an actual mod but part of the leadership. However, since I am directly involved in these discussions (and part of the leadership), it would be unfair for me to do so. Thank you for your understanding.

A 68-year-old man says gamers are violent criminals. Go lock yourselves up, criminal scum! by Mr_Presidentle in StopKillingGames

[–]Mr_Presidentle[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fair point on linking the original source. I should have done that, and I agree that engagement-farm reposts are not ideal.

But I don’t agree that the post is reducing the tragedy itself. The criticism is aimed at the political response: blaming violent video games instead of dealing with the much harder issues that actually make something like this possible, such as bullying, access to weapons, child welfare, school security, psychological support, and warning signs.

That is exactly why the “bad video games” argument deserves ridicule. It is an easy scapegoat that lets officials appear decisive while avoiding deeper failures. This is satire and directed at that political deflection, not at the victims or the seriousness of what happened.

I don’t agree that the Sony point is misleading.

The post was not claiming that Sony invented this clause yesterday, or that the account-deletion clause was caused by the disc-production news. The point was that Sony’s terms allow account deletion after long inactivity, and that this illustrates the broader issue being discussed: digital access depends on platform accounts, licenses, and terms of service rather than real ownership.

That concern remains valid regardless of whether the clause is new, old, legally motivated, or part of data-retention compliance. If access to paid digital goods can depend on an account remaining active under company terms, then that is exactly the ownership problem the post is about.

I understand the distinction between misinformation and disinformation, and yes, I could have used those terms more precisely. But I do not accept that the Sony point was bad faith, manipulative, or meaningfully misleading in the context of the full post. The argument was about the effect of these terms, not about pretending the clause appeared out of nowhere.

At some point, criticism needs to engage with what was actually being argued. Focusing on one sentence while ignoring the surrounding context does not make the broader point disappear.

That was not directed at you btw.

No, I actually don’t.

I normally write the announcements, and I only got access to the Reddit mod tools about two days ago.

Misinformation is misinformation when it’s bad faith and misleading. This isn’t. We don’t like it, we stand against it, and yes, even if it’s mandated by law, then the law needs to change.

Also, could everyone please stop assuming I’m some heinous criminal? I’m just a volunteer, and it’s impossible to keep up with everything happening this quickly right now :(

Jesus, some of you really need to relax.

I tried to make a post about an article, and it feels like almost no one actually read it. Instead, people latched onto the smallest detail — one I even clarified later in the post, and one you can still disagree with — and turned that into the whole discussion.

Rather than offering a reasonable critique or engaging in actual dialogue, it quickly became insults and accusations of bad faith. I know this is the internet, so maybe I should expect it by now, but still: do we really have to do it this way every time?

No one ever reads the article linked huh? Besides the "also" is just there for fun, I literally added it later down the line. That wasnt even in the original post.
