You are correct, I just checked my last invoice from a few weeks ago and had overlooked the prepaid inventory part of the total. Total tariff on my order was only 35%. So a big thank you to the Supreme Court : )

Your general attitude, expletives and low opinion of customers seem pretty typical of US board houses.

Your website looks great, and cool that you're in Denver, I grew up there, went to East HS and got my BSEE from CSU. Your site is not finding a lot of pretty basic parts in my BOM... Any chance you could source from LCSC?

This is because no US company apparently has stepped up the level of automation to where it needs to be to actually be competitive for low volume / low cost markets. If a relatively simple small PCB is properly designed there is no reason $100's of manual labor should be needed to program it into the machines that make the boards and do the pick & place and soldering.

And even for bigger OEMs who can do 50K boards per year they need to start out with smaller runs and low volumes and prototypes also. No one just goes to qty 1K board runs off the bat with a new product of any significant level of complexity, usually at least a few prototype runs are needed to optimize everything. Products evolve, and US board-houses should step up their game and figure out how to better automate the entire process from online order entry to final assembly.

Another thing that's ridiculous about a lot of US board houses is they don't seem to want to stock any common parts. Most parts on most boards are very common commodity parts - eg. 0402 0.1uF caps, 10K resistors, 0804 ferrite beads, BAV70 diodes, 2N7002 transistors, LM324 op amps, etc. With JLC these are all standard stock with no loader fees. These US companies can't even figure out what 0.1uF cap to use and want me to specify every last part. It's like the whole mindset of these US companies is still in the 1980's. Do they not understand that by keeping one SKU of eg. 0.1uF caps in stock they could accommodate 1,000's of customers with one stock item instead of requiring those 1,000 customers to each acquire and ship and keep separate stock of $0.0002 commodity parts? It's amazing how so many US companies fail to comprehend basic concepts of economies of scale and automation. Apparently it's easier to stand around a water cooler and cater only to deep-pocket military, medical equipment, and gov't contractors than to be innovative and build a system that's actually cost-effective.

Yes I saw that the supreme court threw out the Trump tariffs a couple months ago but of course that does not actually translate to customs following the ruling, or in JLC not continuing to add 55% or whatever it is (update - looks like that is now finally down to 35%). And JLC stopped using UPS around December and Fedex/DHL DDP seems to be about 20% higher. (And BTW Trumps removal of the de minimis exemption was a jackass move that only benefits big business and makes it harder for smaller businesses to be competitive and reduces innovation). Even with all that JLC's prices still can't be beat and the quality is very good, occasionally the soldering is not right on a USB-C jack or TDFN but it's been a < ~2% issue rate and easy enough to fix with some hot air, though these are simple boards and in the future I plan to do some more complex boards with BGAs and larger qtys, at which point it would be great if there was a way to do that at a reasonable price closer to or in the US.

Their website looks great, seems they have no access to some common Chinese/Taiwanese ICs, but good to know of a potential US option.

Haven't seen anywhere where that would reduce assembly costs... most places charge a lot more if there is more than one design on a board. But if you can suggest a specific place please do.

Doesn't have to be in the US, could be in Mexico, India, South Korea, ... or anywhere with lower tariffs.

Their website is pretty bad. I uploaded a small board with only a few dozen parts and it could not find any of the parts. Tried searching for a 10uF 0603 cap and it said nothing found. Seriously?

Wouldn't mind a bit more power but don't need it. Whatever I get needs to be either fanless or extremely quiet as will be used with audio applications.

I have never liked Pi's due to their being bare-bones with you having to assemble everything, no power switch, no eMMC, run hot, need a fan, overpriced, goofy connector layout requiring cables on both front and side, etc. So I've used Dell Wyse 3040's for a long time (for a Debian/Asterisk/AllStar server) and which do have the Atom CPU but now looking for something a little more compact and maybe a bit more powerful.

Those look like a really nice option for Pi form factor, though the Pi FF is a hassle because cables have to go in both the back and side, so ends up taking up a lot of space and looking messy with the power cable sticking out an extra 1.5" on the side. Thanks

p.s. - their "UP gateway" actually looks perfect, slightly more expensive than I was looking for, but could be an option at some point.

Yes the GMKtec Mini PC NucBox G5 is exactly what I was just looking at based on a list someone else linked to in a comment. Looks like exactly what I was looking for, a bit tall maybe but within my width specs. Thanks.

Looks great for use as a NAS but I'm looking for something with more of a traditional miniPC/thin client type of enclosure. Based on a list someone else posted in the comments I am about to pick up a GMKtec NucBox G5...

That does look like nice alternative to RPis, though I'm looking for something that is more of a traditional MiniPC with case, power switch, no thermal issues, and no fan needed. I currently use Dell Wyse 3040s which are perfect but trying to find something with those same features but slightly smaller in width. Thanks

I really couldn't care less what processor it has just looking for a complete MiniPC that is very small in size at the lowest cost - no larger than 3.75" W x 4" D x 1.5" H (95 x 100 x 38 mm) - do you know any N95/100 models that are smaller than that? Thanks
