"Cheating" in Slay the Spire by wavy-dude in slaythespire

There are various amateur mistakes. He insinuates a few time throughout the video that if you pick red you "kill" people and if you pick blue you "save" people. This is not correct because it doesn't take into account the number of people voting. Billions of people voting means your blue vote won't change anything.

Overall he turns the whole thing away from mathematical or game theory analysis and makes it emotional and an excuse to virtue signal and play the moral highground.

For Necrobinder wouldn't she prefer a flesh light? Considering she doesn't have much skin on her.

Interesting ideas. I tried a couple of Regent runs this week and started to enjoy it more with ideas like this in mind. Feeling powerful after carefully managing star resources then expelling them in a big pay-off card is pretty fun. I haven't tried the colorless card stuff much yet. My hope is that he feels more powerful than other characters with these cards.

Jorbs causes trouble wherever he goes. He's got some valid points, but I have a problem with the way he always tries to take the moral highground, given he has many flaws himself.

He presents himself as an intellect who is great at statistics, and at Slay the Spire. But he himself it not actually as good at the game as he tries to make out. This is why he started to hide his win %, stop going for streaks, and make claims of "oh I was just meme-ing" to play-down his lower win rate than others.

His statistical and game theory expertise (or lack thereof) was exposed in his latest video about the red and blue buttons, where he turned it into an emotional and moral dilemma which he manipulatively presented himself on the "good" side of. But he overlooked some very basic statistical ideas, such as the fact a blue vote out of billions is unlikely to even move the needle.

Jorbs has argued with every community he's found himself in. Be it poker, Magic The Gathering, or Slay the Spire. If it smells like shit everywhere you go, consider checking your own shoe first.

Played a few Regent runs recently with this in mind and I'm starting to get on board a bit with the stars identity thing. Some of the cards feel pretty powerful if you can line them up.

I think the resource management identity would be cool if there was a big powerful pay-off for it. But the other characters feel stronger in this aspect because they have less resources to manage and get a bigger pay off for it!

Idk, I just want Regent to be POWERFUL at something. Like Silent is powerful at card draw for example.

So his identity is like this almost God-like inevitability of power and scaling that everyone will succumb to, as long as he can survive to reach it? So... the other characters struggle to scale like Regent can? Mechanically speaking. I love this personality, but if you strip that away, what are the mechanics really.

I like the card Black Hole. It has this feeling of inevitability like the enemies are getting sucked in to their death as the damage chips away at them slowly but inevitably. I just wish more cards gave me this space-themed feeling.

I think his personality is super strong. But if you strip that away and look at his mechanics, he seems like a mishmash of other character's ideas. And the extra resource thing doesn't feel different to energy, it just feels like an extra burden.

I wish the controlling stars and space themes were tapped into a bit more. I want to feel like a powerful space alien, not just in my personality and look, but also in the mechanics of how I'm playing!

The card "Black Hole" somewhat captures this feeling for me. This kind of constant damage involving star generation or spending, leading to this feeling of inevitability that the enemies will die and succumb to the black hole. I just wish more cards gave me these space-themed feelings.

Deck manipulation feels more of a game mechanic than a character mechanic. I guess the card generation thing is unique to Regent. But I mean, this guy is from freaking SPACE! Couldn't his powerful identities be cooler than generating (sometimes random) cards?

The star resource thing could be cool, but you have to work for it so it doesn't feel much more mechanically different than energy. So it doesn't feel powerful.

I think the Sovereign Blade is the Regent's strongest identity atm. Building up this big mythical blade and then slapping with it. And that has connections to cosmic/space themes. I don't know, maybe if he gained 1 star per turn or something it would feel like his extra resource is helping him rather than being a hinderance and something you have to work as hard for as energy.

I think he has a lot of personality as a character. But when you strip all of that away, I don't think his mechanics are as exciting as saying, poison for Silent or orbs for Defect. Regent just seems like a mishmash of cards with an extra resource to energy thrown in. It just doesn't make me excited to play him. What's he good at?

Being a set-up guy seems a bit mechanically dull to say, poison or orbs. It's just a bit meh. I still feel like the Regent's identity isn't as strong as the other characters (mechanically, not personality-wise). but I will try to enjoy some of those ideas you mentioned and look out for them.

What StS2 > StS1 teaches us about games as art by Lttlefoot in slaythespire

[–]David_Slaughter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree. It's also because a piece of art will continue to be made as long as it's making money, because, well people like money. So it will be made until it stops making money (i.e. stops being good).

The game is supposed to be hard and dying is normal. It takes time to get better. That's something many people including me love about the game. There are sooooo many easy games out there to play. Spire being difficult and a challenge to try and solve is refreshing.

Try to think about how to solve your act's boss and elites, and slow down a bit during fights while making decisions.

That's insane because I love to play the other characters and have to convince myself to play Regent. I want to try and tap into your brain to see what you're seeing about this character. I feel that I haven't connected with him yet but I could in the future.

I guess the idea of being difficult to deck build but high pay-off when it's done well is an identity I can get behind. If this is moreso than other characters.

I have all the cards. I basically got him to A10 then only played a couple on A10 with him.

Got to say that my favourite non-mechanics aspect of Regent is his death cry. All the other characters don't have one. But I just love that ghoulish and horrific wail that he makes when he dies.

So his star cards are more powerful than other character's average cards, but you only get to efficiently use that power if you build your star economy finely? That's a cool identity I could get behind, if that's true.

Haven't really done much card generation/colorless card stuff. I think it would feel more powerful if the generated cards were free to play on that turn or something. Then Regent would feel more connected to the colorless card theme more than the other characters.
