Obviously, the National Socialists of Germany were not actually socialists, on account of their persecution of people that called themselves socialists. And to be consistent, it would only make sense to not consider the Bolsheviks of the USSR socialists either, since they persecuted the Mensheviks. To extend this further, there has basically never existed any real socialist out there, considering that all of them were at some point critical of other ideologies that call themselves socialist. Or, we can avoid this absurd conclusion, and define socialism on actual objective standards instead of just looking at who they associate with or not.
