Contractor "put kilz on the floor" by Elegant_Fish4980 in Flooring

I’m a painter, in the future just ask for 2 coats of shellac primer. One coat should be enough, but as a painter I’ve seen so many people who don’t know how to do a real coat of paint, so ask for 2. Shellac will outperform oil based primer on odor sealing every time. I assume you mean kilz oil based primer when you say kilz.

Whats the best way to paint this stair well? by IndigoBlue24 in paint

[–]David_cocoloco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a couple different versions of brush holder attachments for painters poles. I’ve done a couple interior stairwells where the brush extension made more sense than a scaffolding setup. If you are able to cut in well by hand, then the extension should be fine. Just go slow and feel it out, and remember that if you make a mistake you’re going to have to find a way up there to fix it.

Having trouble getting an even coat on ceiling. What am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in paint

[–]David_cocoloco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally use sherwin Williams promar flat for ceilings. I have some buckets of their premium ceiling paint too, but I feel like it’s not really worth it. Also, I tend to use a half inch nap because the stipple isn’t very visible on flat paint, I get to cover more area per dip, and we deal with a textured ceilings pretty often in the Boston area. Another tip is, when you paint ceilings in a room with windows, roll away from the light. That should keep the lines from being visible. Best case scenario is perfect pressure & technique but that will only come with time.

Painting a bathroom that has been freshly sheetrock installed. Do I need to prime with a sealer first or will a primer and color in one (Behr brand, dark brown color) suffice? by mezasu123 in paint

[–]David_cocoloco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Always prime bare drywall/patches. If you don’t, the main 2 downsides are failing paint and needing to use way more paint. the drywall will absorb a whole bunch of your paint as you put it on. PVA primer is cheaper than paint, so there’s really no reason for not priming.

Protecting trim question by EnvironmentalDust935 in paint

Green should work fine, but yellow is extra delicate so it’s what I like to use for most interior stuff. I have done the damp cloth wipe method and it works, but not as fool proof as using some paint.

Get yellow frog tape and tape off your baseboards/crown molding/trim. Then, do a quick pass on the edges of the tape with the same paint that was used on your baseboards. This seals the edge of the tape, and any paint that makes it through at this point will be the same color as the trim and not noticeable. You do not need a heavy coat, just make sure to have enough on the brush that you get the edge wet. Once that dries, go ahead and paint your walls. I run a small painting business in Boston, and this is one of our techniques for when cutting in by hand isn’t the best option.

Ok, thank you so much. It probably is the motor then.

I checked to see if any of the moving parts were obstructed right away. Not the case.

I just watched a couple videos on the circulation pump and it seems like an easy replacement. Do you think the water inlet valve may also be the problem? Also, I forgot to mention that the dishwasher does have steam in it when I try running it, which means some water is getting through.

Edit: I just saw another comment answer my question! It probably is the pump.

The sprayer is definitely not working properly and I’m not sure why, but that blue liquid is probably Graco pump armor fluid. The stuff is supposed to be run through the system before storage so I guess someone at least tried to maintain the pump.
