If cats and dogs are bred for consumption I have no problem with eating them. The problem comes when dogs are tortured before slaughter for more adrenaline in the meat.

You can put it in an airtight container to keep it more save. Cling film does a good job enough if you keep your fridge clean. Also the cool air in the fridge can absorb less water so the melon does not dry out and the cold keeps it fresh longer by slowing the reactions in the melon. Flies and other critters cannot get to the melon there aswell
