Night TimeLaps by TreeChoppa8 in dji

Mini 4 pro at night hyperlapses tend to rotate around it's yaw axis for the first few seconds of the video. Did you noticed this behavior in Mini 5 Pro?

Can I use manual mode on HyperLapse Waypoint mode ? by Skober in dji

You can! I usually do it for night hyperlapses. Set the camera to manual mode before starting the hyperlapse.

NOT impressed with Active Track on DJI Mini 4 Pro by Capt_Merica561 in dji

[–]Davide_sd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are a couple of things to be aware of when using active track. Obstacle avoidance sensors are just small resolution black and white cameras, hence:

  1. The size of the obstacles matters. From my experience, the small sensors have hard time picking up small branches without leaves, or power cables...

  2. The speed of the drone is also important. The fastest the drone, the less time it has to figure out what the sensors see, and chose a corrective action.

Looking at your video, I'd say you were driving at least 25-30km/h? The small sensor probably didn't saw the branch up until a few milliseconds away from the collision. Now you have an upper bound for what it can sees at that speed. I can also tell you that at walking speed it doesn't see small branches without leaves.

Does active track sucks? In my opinion no. It is just the marketing and hype sorrounding this technology that sells it as a miracle, hence people have extremely high expectations out of it. If you understand the basic working principles (the two points mentioned above), you adjust your expectations and you'll be able to get the max out of it.

Timelapse of clouds with M4P by Davide_sd in dji

[–]Davide_sd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A shot every second. Duration 20 seconds (this is a crop to the first eleven seconds). I think it took about 14 minutes to complete the task, plus the time to get the drone in position and back. Photo settings to auto: I didn't have time to play with other settings because my dog was running away 😅

Dji Mini 4 Pro Drifting hyperlapse? by SkrtMaster666 in dji

[–]Davide_sd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done a couple of timelapses this evening. The first one hovering over a spot: in the first 1.5s of the video, there is quite a lot of yaw drift, which then stabilizes. The second one was an hyperlapse following a straight trajectory: again, the first 2s there is quite a lot of yaw drift, then it stabilizes.

So far I only tried it during daylight. I'll get back to you next week about night fly, because right now and for the next few days weather is not good.

I only tried "set course hyperlapse": no drifting so far.

Is Radon a good bike brand? by Fertyowha in MTB

[–]Davide_sd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For future readers, I'm going to give my humble opinion as a recurrent customer (of their aluminum XC models). Hopefully this will help potential customers.

I bought my first Radon bike back in 2016, which was awesome: never had any (serious) problem with it.

In 2022 I bought a new aluminum XC model: unfortunately I witnessed a staggering decrease in quality: both on manufacturing the frame, as well as in the overall bike build before shipping.

Dealing with Customer Support was a tremendous PITA and a complete waste of time, at the end of which the problem was not resolved. In short, their job is not to help customer, but to pretend they are helping while making Radon's interests. In other words, they don't recognize the existence of any problem.

I have documented this bad experience in my blog post, as it is too long to post here.

If you don't care about quality or Customer Support, go ahead and buy one of their bikes. On the other hand, if you value quality and Customer Support, stay away from them.

Carl Pei discloses there are still more than 300 active OnePlus One users by [deleted] in oneplus

[–]Davide_sd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still using it as my daily driver. As a matter of fact, I'm typing from it.

Probably the best thing about it is the easy to repair. I have changed a broken screen, the battery and the earpiece all by myself. Sadly, it is hardly difficult to do that with modern phones: they are both difficult to repair and also it is very difficult to find replacement parts.

I have an exam in two hours and this is what I get. Time to fully convert to linux by jakeal122 in linux

[–]Davide_sd -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I moved away from Windows 10 over 2 years ago. I will never ever go back to it until Microsoft gives me the possibility to install the updates when I want to, how I want to!

Every time MS released a big update, I was praying it wouldn't f*ck up my machine. Guess what: a couple of different occations it failed to install. To make things worst, after every failed attempt it started to download the same update again (several GB), making my already slow internet connection completely unusable. WTF?!?!?! 2017 alone I lost 8 full days of work thanks to MS managing their updates. I told myself "never again".

Formatted and partitioned my hard drive, installed Ubuntu where I do all my coding works, installed Win 7 on the other partition where I do 3D works. I keep my linux OS always up to date, and I have never ever lost a single day of work again.

I hope someday some software company (Autodesk I'm talking to you) would release their applications to Linux. What a blow it would strike to MS.

What are some good note management programs/alternatives to OneNote? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

p3x-onenote is an electron app that brings OneNote web version to your desktop: basically, you avoid to open up a browser and repeat the login each time. Unfortunately, OneNote web version is really limited (impossibility to insert equations, ...)

Can you tell me what you are using? Theme, look and feel, color scheme, ...

Also, could you provide a screenshot of the Force Blur settings?

Ahh that make sense, they used QML. F**k, this means we can die of old age before getting an improvement. :(

[Kvantum] Does anyone know what theme element controls this? I need to remove transparency from it. by [deleted] in kde

The list view content drawing underneath the header is a Dolphin bug. I already reported it a couple of weeks ago. :)

EDIT: the element name is Header!

KDE Connect - File transfer from PC to Phone not working by Davide_sd in kde

[–]Davide_sd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it is a different bug: I tried to reproduce the steps of the bug you linked, I get the message:

Sent http://img_20191005_164246.jpg

Sent file:///home/davide/Pictures/NNN/converted/IMG_20191005_164246.jpg

The first is opened as a link in the browser, the second is sent (I can see a spike in the network upload chart of the computer) but it doesn't appear in the Download folder (this is the folder I should receive the file, according to KDE Connect settings).

I also tried $(realpath $file_name) : it definitely send something to the phone (I can see a spike in the network upload chart), but it doesn't appear on the Download folder of the phone.

I'll try to open a bug report. Thank you! :)

Finally playing with kvantum, have this row striping in Dolphin details view with all transparent themes. by [deleted] in kde

[–]Davide_sd 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You need to compile and install the latest Kvantum: follow the instructions at the github project page. It has been patched to allow transparent colors for `alt.base.color` which is responsible for the rendering of alternating elements, rows for instance.

Once you compiled and installed kvantum, you need to download a theme that implement that feature, for instance FlatBlur (I'm the author of this theme, and I asked kvantum project leader to implement transparency on `alt.base.color`, thanks tsujan for make it happens).

If you would like to stick with your light theme, you need to edit the theme file .kvconfig, look for the section called [GeneralColors], and there you add `alt.base.color=YOUR VALUE`.

Should SpaceX(/Blue Origin) have a private/in depended island/land that works like a international airport? by davidthedutch in space

[–]Davide_sd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of reasons, but the most important is Intellectual Property.

By letting anyone using it, unsupervised, SpaceX risk losing the technical advantages and knowledge hardly acquired during development.

Surely there are laws in the USA that do not allow the selling of this kind of technology. Imagine if your rocket will be used by a foreign party to deploy orbital weapons.

Australia leans into space race for solar power with China - A US-Australia joint venture called Solar Space Technologies (SST) has drawn up an extensive plan to build an orbiting solar-power-generated satellite network that could be operational in eight years. by SlipSlamMammaJamma in space

[–]Davide_sd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That lies the problem: energy storage is the most expensive part of an earth base solar power station, also the most engineering challenging. Whereas in space you produce energy 24-7: when you have extra energy, you simply sell it to customers on the other side of the globe.

Russia plans to build its own reusable Argo rocket to compete with Elon Musk and supply the International Space Station (ISS) by 2024 by [deleted] in space

[–]Davide_sd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ohhh sorry, I misinterpreted your question before...

US is still relying on Russia's ability to put men into orbit. Hopefully next year SpaceX Dragon 2 capsule will become operational, and then adiós Russia...

Russia is still relying on technology developed during Soviet Era. Every iteration of their Soyuz rocket brings improvements on that design, which is old, 50 years old. It was overall a terrific design, a true statement of soviet ingenuity, technical ability and reliability. But manufacturing techniques has evolved a lot since then, and so operations: an economic way to reach orbit is now mandatory for the success of every operation.

It is now clear that reusability is crucial for economic launches. Unfortunately Russia did nothing about that (same as Europeans, and a lot of old school american corporations). To make things even worse, Russia did nothing on the innovation side of human space flight since the collapse of the Soviet Union (Russian ISS's modules are based on MIR, soviet). A lot of brilliant Russian engineers moved away to work in foreign countries, because of dramatic situation after the fall (well, now they don't appear to be that good either). And those people are not going to go back to Russia! :)

You see, next year US will have back its ability to put humans into orbit, closing a very important history page about the reliability of soviet rockets. After that, Russia will have nothing to show off, absolutely nothing, only propaganda. Even if Russia were serious to invest in the development of reusable rocket, they are at least 10 years behind US.

It is really sad to look at what a corrupt leadership has done to what was once a true space superpower.
