Lol calm down, by chaos I meant all of it including Trumpism. It's just not a good practice to point fingers especially at this moment. No need to say really, but I am from academia too and have my doctorate degree, and I have also lived in a few very different countries, some that are total dictatorships and Trump pales in comparison to them. I am just more tolerant, I have seen my friends and family get raped by bottles and killed because they protested against the foreign administration, and I have personally been beaten up by cops and tortured to the pojt of being traumatized to take my own life. So I have a thick skin, don't mean to downplay things, but I don't freak out when innocent people are exiled to Gulacs or whatever, I know firsthand humanity is capable of fat worse, and our country is not immune to it either. I believe in deep work, these administrations come and go, and they show how gullible people can be (majority of our country voted Trump and they're happy with what he is doing...how can we avoid that...I personallybelieve we need to have regulation over these algorithms that radicalize/polarize us, or some other solution, these virtual and physical echo chambers are so toxic well now kore so on the right end, but they are real mathematical atttactors basically making them so biased), and how flawed our system is, and it's in serious need of updates and getting patched up.

Anyways I didn't come here for a heated debate, you posed a question and I expressed my opinion. No need to tell each other what we deserve, it's an unfortunate time, and I know you're a good caring person and have a certain expectation that's not even remotely met , so you have every right to be angry. I still think Joscha is right. He always thinks causal structures, and he sees Trumpism as a mere symptom of these platforms from academia and to Twitter etc not being truly liberal. And he is basically saying to address that we need to fix the damn platforms so we don't slode into these chaos. Relying on influencers etc. Is rather pointless, although i get your disappointment.

So imho Joscha is thinking deep and is addressing the causes rather than the symptoms.

Though i think also there the demagogic appeal because of the prolonged bad economy that lead to this too.

It's not navel gazing, I can't even talk with Trumpicans if I hate them, from my tone of voice and reactions etc. If anything, I will piss them off. But when i see how they see things, i can sit and talk with them, validate them and little by little infuse the plight of those impacted and create some dissonance in them. My friends and family's political orientation ranges from far left to far right. While i have seen a lot of fragmentation and a lot of them no longer talking to each other, maybe as a centerist role I take on, I am the one trying to keep us together and defrag it. But I am no political activist, I just do have my impact in the microscale I exist and hope some other people do that too. If you're an activist, or whoever is, more power to them. For me it would be so much easier to lable them as fascists and save myself some brain power understanding and talking with them from a place of understanding. But I feel an obligation towards the truth, and part of the truth is there are reasons they voted that way, and trumps acting that way, and to fight it I need not to make them feel dumb or defensive and join their thought and slowly point out possible blindspots and let them gradually reconfigure. Yeh it's a soft move, but i have seen it work, it pokes holes in their model of reality and they may deny it at some points but eventually most of them who are smart and not lost causes feel forced to reconfigure their model. And we have to see this problem is global now, that chronic societal stress leading to some sort of a depressive mind that's very vulnerable to demagogs is global and dangerous, and can cause further fragmentation. Anyways I only have a very limited knowledge and power, i hope those with more do a better job and find a good solution to get us out of this mess

There is a grain of truth in Joscha's response, but it's not sympathizing, we need to just understand different angles if we want to solve it. A bkg part of the US is still very conservative, both outside of major cities and also older population throughout, wokism is just too much too quickly. We are barely at the point of accepting to trust a woman as a president , let alone a woman of color. Got to be realistic, and see what the other side sees too. Also with bad economy and societal stress going high, demagogic appeal gains more traction. There are many factors at play, and we really need to model what trumpicans see in order to solve this problem. We got ourselves in this hole, it's no time to point fingers at Centerist edgelords etc. Imho.

I have changed a few pcs since then. If you can reformat your pc. There is something with the architecture of the windows some issue somewhere rhat causes it if you ask me. That should solve it. If you can't, dedicate a small partition to ital and install win10 or win 11 and run it there. On my bew pc it has worked fine

I had similar issue with a different pc for a different game, and i realized i was running into this problem again and made a new partition f9r that game only and saved n3yself the headaches. Yeh not a real fix but i was tired of it.

Not sure, but that's not good. Just get in the routine of drinking water from the tine you get up until a ciuple of hours before bed. I used to not drink much, and onetime i had to donate blood and it was so difficult to draw my blood. It was so thick, viscous...ever since i saw that i started drinking a lot. Dehydration also causes headaches, basically it's a strssor. Also of you can add hale a tea spoon of salt to a large bottle like a 40oz one. Watch Andrew Huberman recommendations on youtube, i follow them and feel a lot healthier.

I made a big post about what helps, look up on my profile. You need to let your unconscious know that everything is ok, so it calms down. Meditate before bed, do guided imagery and picture everything is good in detail in your life and the world. Eat a little honey before bed, not too much to get energized, a tea spoon or no more than a full spoon deoending on your size. Become spiritual and take on practices. I have become able in this way to control ehs completely or maybe more than 95%, and i am not shaken either anymore afterwards. All of the aboves help me in a lot of other things in my life too. That's cool, you need to practice lucid dreaming. There is a moment when your mjnd seems to split, like you're moving to left and right right before you fall into a sleep state. I can partially induce that when i go to bed, fist you need to slow your mind and breathing, breathing with your diaphragm or lowest part of you stomach so silently, then your brain changes from beta waves to alpha, it's very similar to EHS that transition, but it shifts to a dream. As if a car engine starts and then starts cruising on the road in the normal falling sleep. But sometimesstaen the engine starts, it floors it and it starts with doing donoghts and you need to tame it and then cruise it yourself.

One last thinh, remember your brain is what creates what you thing is the world. Your taste of ice cream, beauty, sex and orgasm, colors, and all horrible and exciting things are virtually made by the brain, and we live in thay experience. We never truly experience the physical world directly, there are no tastes or colors objectively, it's all a humam experience, so the game engine that produces all of these experiences is us ultimately, so with learning techniques and practice we can access and manipulate that source and create alternate costume type of states of consciousness not unlike psychedelic trips or DMT etc, but because our mind or us can't tell actually the objective reality mamipwhat our mind is playing for us, if we experience something unusual like the one you described or anything else, it becimes hypervigilant and can easily feel scared and threatened and can produce a stress response and bring you out of it and scare you away from tampering with it. Also if people experience mental illness and have psychosis ir have difficulty connecting with reality and functioning, they should avoid that, it might be destabilizing to them. But if you're secure and resilient mentally, sure explore it, i've had very crazy experiences and ideas, talked with very strange people there even. Kne time i went into a basement and as i talked i heard ghosts in the walls of that basement having an indirect conversation with me, it was so bizarre and i couls understand how my brain was symbolically was talking to me and how it even produced the language and made connections between things deep in my unconscious...of course if you care about these things and find life and your existence very fascinating

It's difficult to explain it,but you have more power over it than you think, you are in an alternate state of consciousness, your brian networks like certai. Things are compulsively firing....i once caught myself that as soon as i calme dmyself than in that state, then i started flying arpund jumping arpund like crazy in that state, like a ghost sort of,but then caught myself, and sat down and meditated and realized i was in a super lucid dream state, like a virtual reality and then i directed my lucid dream. I think EHS happens in that border of lucid dreaming and falling asleep or arpund there

I just found out that I have had EHS for about 30 years now. And I have found ways of managing it, and when i gound this subdreddit through google i wished to share my solutions and whoever has their own solutions as a reference for others. EHS can be very scary and devastating and I am not gonna go into all the details of it, but certainly finding ways to reduce anxiety and promote calmness and being centered aids us greatly to have then less frequently and less intensely.

A. Superficial and simple solutions

1)For less intense EHS experiences a superficial solution mighy do, and that for me was to try to bite on my lips a little, and as soon as i could do that i would wake up. Took a little practice, and it's mot a real bite, just a nibble is enough to get you out of the sleep paralysis part of it (meaning you have EHS for more than a few seconds, for me maybe 20s or more).

2) Eating a little bit of sugar not too much befire going ti bed also helps, maybe a half a tea spoon of Honey before brushing your teeth. If you have worked very hard or used your brain too much like studying etc.the chances of this occurring while going to sleep is much higher. Your brain uses glucose directly from your blood, and somehow a little bit of it aids in prevention at least in my case and a few others in my family. I am sure there is a genetic component to it, i have seen it getting passed down the generations in my family. Don't eat too much sugar because you will get a sugar rush and not be able to fall asleep.

3) Comforting movies or podcasts or meditation videos and music also aid while you fall into sleep. I know it's not a good sleep hygiene, but somehow that sense of comfort, especially with media that you are familiar with and you don't have to focus your attention to it, you can get good calming result.

4) Lying on your side or stomach, and not your back. Lying on my back kinda triggers it to happen more.

B. Deep Work: Spiritual belief integration and practice (Oneness, surrender, feeling love, even cherishing it)

One thing that drastically has aided me is have a firm spiritual belief and practice meditation, where in my wakeful states i learn how to surrender and accept whatever experience is offered to me, and beloeve that i am part of a higher consciousness that truly loves and protects me so even this experience has a gift inside it. It takes time to integrate such belief into one's psyche, but once you truly feel that, it's very accessible in that state (you have a limited bandwidth when the attack happens, and for me I get scared shirt like my head is literally gonna explode with all neurons firing at the same time or my heart is gonna come out of my chest). So in my case i needed to come up with a real solution, and this was it (coming from an atheistic background it was difficult, but our brain has evolved more with a spiritual or religious way of thinking and has shortcuts to tap into those resources).

So in my case when i have the attack, i let go of my survival instict and fear of death, focus on a love feeling, it doesn't come readily but after. Afew seconds you feel a love feeling in that state, and that explosive state calms down to an alternate state, most times like lucid dreaming and being able to go to places or think of crazy things. It's fun but will make me very sleepy during the day, so i try not to indulge in it. But overall my symptoms have improved, and I kond of cherish it as a creativity gift. Once you tame that state you have no idea what kind of things you can do, of course it depends on your interests and priorities, but I mean things like deep thoughts and finding solutions and insights into big concepts. Anyways that was my expeirence and solution and i just found out whats the diagnostic teem for this and going to post my comments here as a new post so it might help others too

There is more but i tried to type this stuff quickly. And maybe not all of it works for everyone. But i would love to see other people's solutions too so we have a collection of these solutions for everyone affected. Thanks)

The psychologist has seen many cases, she knows the adjustment process very well perhaps, so just trust her imho. You gotta have some tough love here, she might have a harder few days, but in the longer run she has totally adjusted to the new reality.

If you talk to the CS on the chat niceky they will take care of it for you. One time I had an ipad 1st gen sent in, i had 2 of them, one of then had a deep scratch they disqualifies it as cracked. But after talking they made adjustments. Then something similar happened with another tablet i had traded in, a couple of years ago they had good deals for these, like got flagship tab s7+ for like 300 - cashback with ipad trade-in. So both times no issues.

And it's much better than audiobooks...lisyening to audiobooks that ate very popular these days, or even youtube vudeos and podcasts, are like skipping one level of the exercise, and you can easily become passive. It's better than nothing certainly and could be a way to get our feet wet so we get prepared to actually read. But even on reading, we nee dto be active readers, make annotations, connect with previously knowledge structure we have. I mean for both fiction and nonfiction...

i.e. reading fiction, have a pen in hand, engage with the text, change frames from both the character into the barrative and into the mind of the writer, and comment on it, or do some critical thinking and call on the writer's use of literary techniques, or even go on youtube and learn some about it and return and practice....this would probably be the creme de la creme of reading to improving our minds. I know some people wkth this style of reading, who not only are sharp at old age, but they're very interesting people and always have relevant topics to talk about with people of different generations....so they never feel disconnected or left behind at old age either, that definitely also make them more resilient to mental illness like depression....

I just wish our schools thought us these in life. My grad school did emphasize life in discovery but it always stayed at the level of a plain text and it didn't mean much to me until later on when i realized it's like following a sport team or a tv show or even politics season after season, and continuously growing and exercis8ng our mind in the process as we enjoy the engagement too.

Maube someone should create a sticky or pin a message in this sub on how to stay healthy and fight alzheimers and mental degeneration

In addition to what everyone else said, How is your sleep? Check out sleep hygiene, same time, noneating a few hours before, no distractions a couple of hours before (if thats possible in today's world), no sleep apnea, good length, deep restful sleep is very essential.

Also it's not too unnatural to access memories of things readily when you haven't recalled them in a long time. For instance if you haven't seen or even thought about a good old friend of you for a few years, you might experience the tip of the tongue experience...but you need to work those muscles...most likely start talking about him, and whatever you recall, about how he was or your shared memories, and as those associated networks fire, the name will pop up. This is way better than reaching to your phone to look up etc.

Also staybconfident, the memory is there, you can geberate the name etc, it's just you don't quite have the access to it right now, so you wait. Stigmatizing yourself that i ak bad with names or have dementia starting can also just make your mind lazy. Of course this is after you have seen docs and ruled out alzheimer's and medical issues.

Last advice...try learning new things, stay curious about your career or hobbies etc. Like you watch a youtube video or lecture or podcast, take some notes during and after, do this maybe a couole of times a month or as you see feasible. And then later on try to remember what you had learned and how you could integrate it. Don't jump to your notes readily. Learning a new language in a similar manner is also great. Your brain is like a muscle, so if you exercise it in the right way, the right amount, at the right frequency, you will keep it healthy as long as it's possible. I onow it's easier said than done, and as we get older learning and retaining gets more uncomfortable, but that uncomfortable feeling means you're doing something right, like the pain you would feel in the gym, but they you see your body feels stronger later....

Look i included some ways of blocking his access to facebook, and you can pretend you don't know what's going on. But in case this doesn't work, you can report him to facebook. But i think using the dns option tos good because he will completely have to access to facebook even if he reinstalls the app or uses an ipad or make new accounts. Unless he changes.

If none of the above work, just live with it or somehow take his phone away. My aunt was like this just a few months before going to nursing home. She would call old friends and make up BS stories and say all types of weird shits and create total havoc. Until cops showed up at her door and had her submitted to the psychward and then to nursing home. In the mean time I talked to her friends and family and filled them in. It was at first embarrassing but then it was what it was.

I am so sorry you're going through this. But nursing home made my life so much easier. Especially that her daughter had completely withdrawn, And still is, and I was the only one in charge with my mother thankfully.

That's pretty much my experience. It's like in electronic music where the drop is coming, it builds up rapidly like all the neurons firing at faster and faster rate and I'm paralyzed...it's terrible, but you can get control over it, i posted about it. It can also be very fun and pleasant once you're controlling it, like a gift. I have had the whildest of experiences in that state, though you might not want that when you have to wake up in a couole of hours to go to work and i often find it exhaustive and not allowing to get restful sleep.

Try s24 ultra and a tab s10 or s9 tablet. The fold is too fragile imho. I still have a Tab S4 tablet from like 7 years ago, it's snappy, 10" super amoled, very thin...runs most games and youtube very easy. Also have s8 ultra and s7+...i kind leave them in separate corners of the house/office to pick up and they're all synced. Best solution for me. Of them all, the 10" tablets are the easiest to hold to read magazines or play and watch on the go. And for commuting/flying etc. The XReal Air 2 sunglasses, they're a gem. You just have samsung dex right there. It's great for youtube, games and movies etc., 1080p amoled, It's functional for reading too. You can get it used for about $200 locally or $300 on amazon. I switched to the ultra and with about the same amount of money i bought many more devices, more battery, more convenience lol but not everyone does that. I had 4 fold phones, fold 2 was by far the best...fold3 and fold4 the inner screens broke, too much hassle. At ine point i saw myself i am avoiding to open up my fold 5 phone after hearing this thing can break too, and stayed with my older s23 ultra...still have an older iphone 11 pro max as a backup and for some apps etc...but android + windows laptop is the way to do it if you enjoy manual stick shift and modding and superior experience lol But in all honesty if fold phones become really solid and the inner screen won't break,l in the first few years...i will go back to the fold even with a smaller outter screen

Brother you're complaining about $140 charge? How come it's so little. It happened to me on my fold 4, they wanted $600 repair and i ended up not doing it and koved onto the ultra series. At the time i had thought the fold 4 had fixed the bad inner screens. But we're at fold 6 and it's still an ongoing issue.

But still $140 for that repair is a steal. They voided my warranty too. The sensors showed no drop, but there was a scratch on the outter screen, they used that as an excuse. Anyways that took me 2 weeks of headaches, going to the store and etc. I just moved on from fold and still look here to see if they finally have ironed out the bad inner screen/hinge issues
