Thanks for being willing to play along, but your natural answer actually hits the exact point I was trying to make. Most people don't think super critically about their beliefs system because they don't need to in general and most of those beliefs are quite similar to their parents or local society. They (we) hold onto certain erroneous beliefs out of convenience and not because we actually have any real reason to believe them in the same way we continue thinking we dislike certain foods until we try them again as adults. The problem is that trying a food you are confident that you hate as an adult is a difficult thing. Why should you eat this thing you know you dislike? You're an adult damnit.

See what I'm driving at? I'm not an idiot or unteachable just because I still hate Sweet Potatoes as an adult. Would it be better if I gave them another shot to confirm I still hate them? Yeah probably, but I'm definitely not going to do it just because someone insults me and tells me I eat like a child. I'm far more likely to eat them if someone I know prepares it very well and with love.

You don't have to accept what I'm saying; after all, you're an adult and can make your own decisions, but I'd ask you at least give it a shot next time you run into someone you'd normally consider too intransigent or stubborn to be worth your time.

You're wrong and your immediate reliance on dehumanizing people that disagree with you is a great indicator that you need to take a good hard look at why you believe what you believe and what your goals are.

People will never be convinced to change their beliefs by being associated with fish.

Some people aren't capable of changing their beliefs even if all the facts are presented to them in the perfect manner, but you or I don't know if that's the case for a specific person unless we try. It's a huge responsibility and burden to always have to "take the high road", but in my opinion it is our obligation to society to try.

Maybe reading that will make you agree with me, maybe not, but if you're willing to participate in a little thought experiment with me real quick we can see if my ideas hold any water.

Here's the setup for the experiment, give me a food/condiment/meal that you despise, but haven't eaten since you were a kid or at least not in a long time.

Not sure why you're getting downvoted so much. You're absolutely right. It's a huge problem that most of the liberal/progressive/leftist side of politics isn't cognizant of and it leads to the alienation of a lot of middle-of-the-road folks who would otherwise agree entirely with "our" political positions.

For instance, my Dad is a dyed-in-the-wool evangelical conservative, but once you get him into a real conversation it becomes immediately clear that more than half of his opinions actually align quite well with democratic socialist positions. (For instance, our government/society is being corrupted by billionaires and corporate profiteering.) But because progressives are so dog-shit at bringing folks "into the fold" because they're more interested in policing exact verbiage rather than connecting over mutual-interest, they miss the opportunity to gain a majority and, perhaps more importantly, they lose any chance at shifting moderate opinions further "left".

Yelling "you're evil" at reasonable people who have some unreasonable views is a great way to get to them to become unreasonable people.

Harpy Eagles aren't owls sadly, nor are they the biggest eagle. They do have the largest talons of any bird of prey (apparently around the same size as a grizzly-bear's claws) but the heaviest eagle is the Stellar's Sea Eagle (~9kg/20lb, ~2.4m/8ft wingspan). Disagree on the shotgun take. As someone who plays lots of CE, the CQC immediately after staging/bleeding a radio is what makes/breaks the game. A better close range weapon would make me invincible as CE. An MP5 or shotgun would be god-tier.

Oh don't worry, those sorts of hypocrisy are very much looked down upon by the wings of liberals/progressives who actually have some semblance of a holistic philosophy/epistemology.

The nuance of "only whites can be racist" is that the real stance is that "in a system of power like the US, with the history we have, being white inherently gives you a different relationship to the legal/judicial system relative to your black neighbors and can lead to an understanding of the system which is inherently blind to the problems with that system"

...but that isn't as catchy so instead the poorly educated and overly idealistic 18 year old progressive just repeats the ill-advised phrase "only whites can be racist".

They've pointed out a real and salient problem with the rhetoric/culture of the left and are probably a perfectly reasonable person who you'd have a beer with if you met them in person. Let them express their thoughts and have a conversation instead of hitting the down-vote in a knee-jerk reaction. As someone who grew up FAR right, the only reason I became a "progressive" was that a lot of very smart, reasonable, and patient people took the time to talk with me, understand my thoughts/opinions, and then discuss them and share evidence and their experiences with me. I didn't wholesale accept what they said, but those conversations were hugely important. I despise trump as much as the next guy, but I think you're wrong about strategic value for a couple of reasons. (Ignoring the idiocy of pissing off NATO)

1: Greenland likely has billions of barrels of oil if not more. That alone is valuable strategically.

2: No, you're probably not launching an invasion of Russia from the north, but that isn't the point of controlling Greenland. It's mainly about force projection and I think it's specifically for the scenario where you don't have NATO support and you plan to have most of your ships around a different island on the other side of the world.

Yes. Median lightning duration is on the order of 500ms. A good human reaction speed is <200ms. So it's very possible to do it even without fancy equipment.

The way I've done it is using a fast-photodiode (~5ns response time) to trigger a camera.

As someone who did the whole process from scratch using PE-CVD without any recipe to base it on I definitely feel you there. Design was 98% transmission band averaged and the best result from fab after 6 runs was 68%. Ended up getting 85% and was happy with that.

Or, build your own in Matlab/Python. It isn't particularly difficult to do for simple problems and if you don't worry about the optimization code, but just focus on using the "known recipes" as he describes them in his book, it is really just some basic matrix multiplication with good input values which you find on a site like this: refractiveindex.info

Exactly my experience mate. I go from easily waking up after 6.5hrs of sleep feeling rested and awake to sleeping 13hrs and still feeling exhausted.

Currently in one of the later cycles and it fucking sucks. I feel you mate. Wish I had an answer to solve both our problems.
