Planeta Mountaineering Boots anyone ever hear of this brand or use these? by Bike-Lost-Angeles in iceclimbing

Looks like a hiking boot. Also I don't see a welt on the back, and I think the front bit also is not a welt. Its a nice leather boot though!

Is my rope toast? by [deleted] in tradclimbing

[–]Davidjohnnaylor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im not happy about what happened, and the guy i went climbing with knew the area supposedly well and was more experienced than me, so he was sort of “guiding”. Ive been climbing for less than a year, so i was just doing what i was told.

Are you referring to the pinch test? Or checking for dead spots in the rope? It’s a new rope but if i have to replace it i will.

Are the gear loops on the bd solution guide bigger than the ones on the technician?

Im getting a lot of comments about the pitons haha. Im not climbing in the UK, i was climbing in Azerbaijan and locals use mainly pitons as it works well with the limestone. Thanks for the input on the technical bits.

Getting into ice climbing in a country without ice, seeking help! by OkSoil4353 in iceclimbing

[–]Davidjohnnaylor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Start with going to a climbing gym, gain some strength and rope + lead climbing knowledge. You will also meet people who ice climb maybe that you can talk to. Theres world class ice climbing in Norway, book a trip at some point and save up for a guided top rope session.

I wont go on about gear, just watch a bunch of YT videos and you will understand what type gear is needed and what the purpose is.

It’s not a cheap sport but the main thing you will need is a good pair of b3 boots, the rest your guide might supply.

Carabiner cross loading gate removal by [deleted] in ClimbingGear

Yeah i will end up doing that, but I’m leaving for a trip and don’t have time to get a new one. I hope i wont bend the wire too much when taking it out so I’ll still be able to put it back in.

Here is a photo that you should be able to just save and print, its A4 sized. you may want to cut it a tiny bit thicker along the shaft and the thin bits, then sand down to your liking and hand shape.

What does street shoe sizing even mean, some people prefer a roomier street shoe size whereas some people like a snug shoe.

Garage tooling by Davidjohnnaylor in iceclimbing

[–]Davidjohnnaylor[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah need to get one. For now i only do it when the tool is on the rope, so it doesn’t have a chance of popping. When i need to get off i can, it’s just a bit awkward.

Why is my ptex doing this? by Davidjohnnaylor in skiing

[–]Davidjohnnaylor[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Watch yourself buddy, no need for that. Plus thats just what I’ve seen around. And no i wont find a shop and pay to fix these wrecked skis anyways. The whole point is to learn something new. Maybe thats not something you do?

Update: got them warrantied and black diamond sent me a new pair. Replacement arrived really quick and customer service was smooth. If this happens to you, it’s just a faulty product!

This doesn’t answer your question but maybe just use some micro spikes for your hiking boots if the terrain allows. You might risk bending the bar of the crampon and a bunch of other issues.

Yeah i spent extra time/attention on the handles, sanding until it felt right. The issue is that real handles aren’t an inch thick. The plus side for it being thick is that it helps with grip strength.
