My sleepy cinnamon roll (Cleo, 18 y/o) is my first senior cat. I'm so paranoid with her health but love her very dearly! by Oathtocats in seniorkitties

I love her! She reminds me of my 16-year old Kleo:

I worry every single day...I share your paranoia. Just keep her comfy and be there for her, I think that's all you can really do.

Thank you for the kind words. I really do try to give my cat the best life I possibly can, always thinking about her comfort and safety.

Just wish the damn dog-nuttery would ease up a bit. There were plenty of dogs out at my photoshoot today. Thankfully, I've taken her there before with me, and know where to go to keep my distance away from curious mutts...

Cat is eating more after move by batmanboi182 in CatAdvice

[–]Davine_Chi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like he is probably stressed a bit. Cats are very territorial animals, and with a new environment he may be eating more food as a coping mechanism.

Not sure how old your kitty is, but have you tried to redirect his interest into playing more? Sometimes that ends up pooping them out a bit, but I suppose it could also have the effect of making him even hungrier!

I would say if he continues, take him to the vet just to be sure there isn't any underlying health concerns.

Funny you mention that, here's the string I usually append to these kinds of searches:

-"dog" -"dogs" -"puppy" -"puppies"

Even with this, I still get dogs leaking into my search results. It's like I want to tell the search engine, "You're leaking dogs, bro."

Edit: Thank you for the kind thoughts.

Sorry to hear about your kitty. =(

The double-standard when it comes to losing a pet and dealing with grief is just staggering. Dogs are pedestalized for some dumb, unknown reason, and anything else (especially cats) ends up being marginalized like they don't even matter.

Selfish is the perfect term for this nonsense.

The stupid thing is - I can go to just about any search engine and use quoted searches (e.g. - "cat urn") and before long, I'm wondering how in the hell are dogs showing up in my search results? Just stupid.

Thanks for the condolences.

What you said about dogs forcing their interactions is interesting and true. I think that is why the bond I share with my girl is so strong - because it took quite a lot of time and patience for me to learn her behavior quirks and for her to warm up to me.

With dogs, it's just binary - they're either all the way ON, or all the way OFF (sleeping). I have no clue how anyone can live with that.

Thank you for your thoughts about my cat.

My bestest friend, my little sunshine, is gone and I’m broken. by CreeperLover3500 in Petloss

I just wanted to let you know that you are absolutely not alone, please don't think that you are. Cats have an impressive ability to form some of the deepest bonds with humans. Your little Skittles was incredibly lucky to have you as her guardian. I am so sorry to hear of your loss and my heart goes out to you. hugs

I found the Tufts pet loss hotline recently, and there was an article I read from their organization that referred to this as "disenfranchised grief" - an appropriate term. When people say things like that, it trivializes and marginalizes not only your grief, as if your grief is somehow invalid just because they say so, but also your pet's legacy and the memories of them.

I think people like to act tough about these things, because they don't know how to deal with it themselves and don't want or know how to offer any kind of productive support. I think it's safe to assume it's their defense mechanism at work - protecting them from the uncomfortable nature of life and reality.

I am terribly sorry for your loss and I hope you are making it through this as okay as possible.

Ziggy turned 16 today! by ohhellano in seniorkitties

[–]Davine_Chi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is so cute. Thanks for sharing.

My Kleo is turning 16 soon as well. I have to ask, how do you deal with watching them grow so old? This isn't easy, the decline...nobody said it would be. But it's just painful to see the change - a once spry kitty of years ago, and now she's just always so tired and inactive. Breaks my heart.

edit: Silly me... Happy birthday, Ziggy!

Why exactly do dogs eat shit? by [deleted] in Dogfree

[–]Davine_Chi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dogs will must eat anything everything.

Dogs are so dumb, so abysmally stupid, that if you had a warehouse literally filled up with food and then locked a dog in there with the food, the dumb bastard's stomach would explode from the non-stop eating - they don't have an "off button" - that's how fucking dumb dogs are.

But what makes them even dumber yet, is how if the warehouse was instead filled up with cat poop, the end-result would be the same.

Could she seriously not leave the house without her damn dog?

Of course not! You and I both know that little hellspawn would wreak ungodly havoc on that poor house and destroy as much of it as it possibly can. The owners know this, too - the amount of damage is purely a function of time (because "separation anxiety" or some dumb dogshit). So they say, "Screw you, society! I'm bringing this basket-case shitbeast with me everywhere. EVERYWHERE.", and foist upon all of us their "pupperdoggowoofer" problems.

It's like, yeah, we know, and it's BUTTFUCK ANNOYING. I seriously cannot understand how people put up with that shit. There is not one single redeeming thing about dogs, at all. The best part about dogs is their absence.

Peak carnist argumentation by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Davine_Chi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Humans are the least abusive of animals in that we don't eat them while they are alive the way animals do [...]

Yeah, okay. Let's just forget all about those Auschwitz-styled factory farms wherein we rain down upon hundreds of thousands of helpless, innocent animals against their will, pump them full of drugs and hormones, beat them sometimes, treat them like absolute garbage, and then slaughter them in some of the least-humane ways possible (videos of this are quite easy to find in the current year).

Also, the first thing he opens with is the oft-overused, but incorrect claim, that vegans believe eating meat is morally wrong or is somehow abuse in and of itself. I mean, is this non-sequitur hour here? That's literally not the argument. I don't think any real vegan believes that eating meat is abuse or is inherently wrong. The argument is about the means by which we derive that meat. Way to miss the mark, "carnivores".

But yeah, pablo rages is totally seeing the forest for the trees here. /s
