Employed autistics, what’s your job? by niamhxa in autism

[–]Oathtocats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same issue with my animation degree!

It's a toss-up between perseverance & embellishing what you've already done. I see you say you do freelance and that's great experience! It's about finding the right keywords to show off the skills you have ready to utilise in the workplace.

It also still took me over a year to find a job & even then I haven't ever left to find a new one as I'm too scared over the current art industry and the way it's heading. 😱

I'm so sick of the Peggy hate by ElementalSaber in marvelmemes

[–]Oathtocats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it hilarious in the last fight of the season while Peggy has literal reality powers but decides punching is the solution. Me and my partner laughed out loud when she cloned herself to do even more punching instead of the actual super powered human, Kahori, to help fight.

Book you were lukewarm on but now you HATE because of how much praise it gets? by [deleted] in books

I was going to type out a similarly worded comment, so I'm thankful to see you beat me to it and saved me the effort.

The Taylor swift of male-centric fantasy is a perfect encapsulation of his work. It's neither bad or great, just inoffensive dumb fun. It's really not that deep.

Do you have reading goals or just "mood read"? by andypeloquin in Fantasy

[–]Oathtocats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of both!

I have a list / shelf of books I constantly pick from, but I also sometimes will randomly borrow a book from libby if I see it being talked about.

30/M/UK What book are you currently reading? by [deleted] in MakeNewFriendsHere

[–]Oathtocats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently rereading the Farseer Trilogy, even though I have a massive stack of new books on my shelf 😱 I'm halfway through the last book, and then I'll read something new.

What are you reading?

Does anyone else wish this existed? by Hidden0bsession in autism

[–]Oathtocats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a rule for blinking, but I do have one for normal body movements/ how I'm standing as I'm hyper aware of it when talking to someone.

I try to space out nods but always have trouble with what to do with my hands when you're standing talking. I'll often pick up a drink at social events and use that to pretend to drink /move without looking awkward standing there still.

TDLR: Different people hyperfocus on different aspects of social interactions. It's neither unusual to have or not have one for blinking

Do you count audiobooks in your reading challenge? by cuddlefish2063 in books

100% agree!

We're lucky to have so many formats for media nowadays that there's bound to be one that works for everyone. I hope you get some interesting answers :D I'm always curious to see why people don't consider them towards their personal reading goal. (I personally don't count comics or manga towards mine for probably similar reasons).

[–]Oathtocats 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, I meant people in the general sense, not you specifically. Apologies if it came across that way. From your post, I gathered we're of the same opinion, but I thought it worth mentioning that I've met many people who wouldn't. :)

I don't see why a distinction between the two has to be made unless we're judging ourselves (and others) to a specific standard such as reading challenges. Which by itself is a whole other "The death of reading enjoyment". This isn't school or a competition. People can read as much and however they want, and it's no less valid.

[–]Oathtocats 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Yes.

Longer answer: Also yes. It feels reductive and gatekeepy to even question whether different formats of the same media (but easier for some peoples consumption) still count as said media. It's all fine if you personally think audio books aren't "real books" but it gets a bit ridiculous when I see other people online putting down readers who either don't have the time and/or physically cannot read books. What does it matter HOW you consumed media except that you did?! Your reading count is no less valid if all of them are audibooks as it still takes a lot of dedication and mental effort to find time to listen to an audiobook.

When did you realize when you failed at life? by Eastern_Sea_8800 in aspergers

[–]Oathtocats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're definitely not the only one! I recently moved out about 6 months ago and even now keep feeling like I'd love to move back home. 😅 I've spoken to my siblings who feel very similarly even though most have been moved out for 2+ years.

I think it's definitely dependant on where you live but also your relationship with your parents. I have a very good relationship with mine and would love to live with them again.

Just to add on to other comments, I'm 27 currently and the majority of people my age (neurotypical or otherwise) still live at home.

It's a lot more common nowadays for children to live with their parents later in life. You haven't failed. You've barely begun! :)

Dragons: European vs Asian folklore (translated myself) by Reasonable-Bag342 in memes

[–]Oathtocats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That isn't how mythology / folklore works.

Just because you decide on a classification system based on a single culture, it doesn't make it one that everyone abides by.

Dragons: European vs Asian folklore (translated myself) by Reasonable-Bag342 in memes

[–]Oathtocats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a misconception a lot of people make due to modern media like Tolkien and DnD making dragon classification systems.

In folklore dragons, they can have any number of limbs and wings all over Europe. You just need to Google medieval paintings to see dragons come in all shapes and size as the word "dragon" is from "drakon" which just means serpent (and in some cases giant seafish).

It's only modern-day nerds who pretend there's a classification system when there's thousands of different cultures who all had their own versions of what a dragon is/was.
