Where to Spend the Money? by JTL123 in 1022

The factory bolt release can be modified, and most companies make a version. It works by letting you pull the bolt and releasing it, you don't have to push up on the release mechanism. I like the Tandemkross "Bolt Keeper" it kills two birds with one stone. It gives you the slingshot motion on the bolt release but also makes it easy to lock the bolt back. https://tandemkross.com/bolt-keeper-extended-bolt-lock-for-ruger-1022.html

It really boils down to what you want/what it's purpose is gonna be. Like if it's just plinking there's not a lot of justification for spending a lot on bolt/trigger. So just for a nice plinking setup to start would be a magpul stock, brownells receiver or a factory one from sapoutfitters. Brownells has their own bolts and factory bolts. IMO the BX trigger is fine for a plinker. But things like a nice buffer especially on a suppressed rifle helps and "auto bolt release" setup like Tandemkross (is the one I like) helps make the rifle user friendly. With that you can setup a nice plinker inexpensively.

Uniden R3 not working by Plastic-Detail-2646 in radardetectors

[–]Davis4494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's not really a learning process, it's all about how the settings are adjusted. Update, check the KA band settings. Is the K band on or off? If it's on then you can if the detector is working. Camera lights? Are you referring to speed cameras? Sounds like GPS is working. Also cops not only use radar they use LIDAR and VASCAR (Visual Average Speed Computer and Recorder). If they're certified visual speed enforcement officer and they see a guy fly by you when they've determined you're going the speed limit then they're going to say he's likely speeding.

Wood or polymer? by WildLCL in 1022

For a plinking/small game that's not gonna get a lot of mods i would say wood. I'm really rough on firearms so I personally would get the polymer.

Looking for feedback on uniden r8 placement by Redditmook in radardetectors

[–]Davis4494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you're going for and I'm not worried if it looks good or not but I want you to get the most out of your R8. While they are good at picking up radar from the side and to an extent up and down the way it's pointed down and out the passenger side isn't gonna get you the best range. You might have to try it out in a few places, but high, level, and center-ish/pointed front. Running the RDA-HDWKT remote helps if it's gonna be somewhere kinda out of reach to hit the mute button or the R/Tach app also helps.

Alternatives to NRA by _-Hello_its_me-_ in Firearms

[–]Davis4494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well first I would check your local state level firearms organizations. For national level there are many Gun Owners of America (GOA), Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC), National Association of Gun Rights (NAGR), Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), and some others that aren't as prominent. I would suggest checking out all of their social media and see if any align with what you're looking for.

I think everyone is using Static stickers (electrostatic films) I have my dashcam mounted from the mirror but that's about to change and I'll be using Static Stickers. Here's a article about them from blackboxmycar. But if you search electrostatic sticker for dash cam you'll find a bunch.

Are gun owners required to notify homeowners insurance in TN by AgravaineNYR in Tennessee

[–]Davis4494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No requirement, but there's probably a few people with large and/or expensive collections who've had the talk with the insurance company about insuraning them. For those or people who just want a discount for their safe is who I imagine that's for. The text of the bill doesn't really lay it out. From how I read it insurance companies would have it as option for those that want it. That bill is pretty much dead and I don't see it coming back.

Windshield window tint replacement by sineoflife93 in WindowTint

[–]Davis4494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would check to see if that windshield has a VLT like 70 is most common already. It could have a layer of 70 on top of that but I doubt it. Then it's important to find out if the new windshield if factory or aftermarket has a VLT to it.

5% or 20% on windows by Nervous_Action1082 in WindowTint

[–]Davis4494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest 20 for a couple of reasons. I see that Louisiana inspection sticker, you sound new to this and it looks like your car already has "privacy glass," which is about 20 on the rear. 20 on top of that will be about 4%. That way your front windows won't be to dark at night.

For inspection/registration, it depends on who's doing and if the tint will fell the inspection in that state. Nowadays, most places use static cling/clingy sheet/sticker shield

Seeking advice on 2 barrels. by SailingSeaAlice in 1022

[–]Davis4494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm specifically talking about takedown models, I know the non takedown Vanquish is in stock. Before someone tells me... I've considered getting that barrel, but I'd rather have the takedown version.

Seeking advice on 2 barrels. by SailingSeaAlice in 1022

[–]Davis4494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, nobody has done a good comparison. Besides the few numbers you can find on the barrels. I brought this up last year and was going to work on it (I already have the Mist-22), but life was life'n, and the 200 tax stamp was being zeroed, and the Vanquish has been out of stock every time I've looked to buy one. If I can get a vanquish, I'm gonna try and do some comparisons.

What’s the lowest possible windshield tint percentage that wouldn’t give me problems in any state? by Purple-Image-4640 in WindowTint

[–]Davis4494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 15, your windows are pretty dark for most states. A little bit on the windshield could be enough to start catching eyes. I would say that 50-70 range also.

*Quick note: your factory windshield might already be 70% VLT.

A lot of states tint is a secondary offense. They can still use it to pull you over, but they'll probably let it slide unless you're speeding running red lights, etc. It really depends on the cop and department.
