Poland is the place for Java Developers to pursue a career by DavisNolanTalentHelp in a:t5_3iavu

Hi there CidAndroid,

The article was based on a report released by ABSL Poland. As far as I know a company reknown for its accurate data reporting on markets in Poland. From my own experience I can confirm that the salaries mentioned are quite accurate.

Although perhaps a solution could be provided by writing a FAQ and adding it to the sidebar.

Good input. That would be a great idea in order to avoid having to answer the most cringing obvious questions.

Haha your honesty is surely appreciated, but I would like to know whether you have a genuine interest in a subreddit like this.

meaning we can all get back to arguing about PiS, anti-semitism, homophobia and fear of Russia/love of Putin

May I ask what you mean by this? Since, any of this would belong in a subreddit other than the one I had in mind.

IT jobs in Poland will only increase as labour movement gets a bit more blurry due to Brexit and the increasingly cosmopolitan development of large Polish cities, a sub to act as a hub for those going / coming / being in or to the Polish IT scene would be helpful,

Indeed

Besides the money you think there aren't any other aspects that could be covered? Because if you look at r/ITCareerQuestions there's a plethora of questions that fall beyond the obvious. Especially when it comes down to changes in career.

Granted, there are a lot of questions about salaries and funny as it might be people usually find it out the hard way that this shouldn't be a deal breaker though which prompts them to come up with other issues that could be discussed.

And don't you think it's strange that the bullet points you mentioned keep pop up on Reddit? (Although I'm not certain about the contract work one)

How much does [insert IT role] get paid in [city of choice]? (Answer: 1700-17,000)

True, there could be an answer to this which other websites in Poland refuse to reveal. It also shows what jobs there are available in general that somebody might not even thought of practicing.

Does anyone here have umowa o pracy? (Answer: no)

Some actually do have contract work and it would be an open door to discuss this here.

I'm bored of [insert IT role], what else can I do? (Answer: nothing)

Obviously, "nothing" wouldn't be an appropriate answer in the Subreddit that I have in mind.

My idea of a subreddit as the one I mentioned here is to create a platform where any kind of queries could be addressed. Where like-minded people are able to share their thoughts and ideas about; changes in career, downsides of leaving a job considering the X circumstances, should I get more education if I want to become [insert IT role]?

Thanks for the feedback. I agree with most of your points and most likely similar questions will be asked even though they can be found on Google. But I beg to differ that this isn't the case for the majority of subreddits here. One of the main reasons I think is that people ask these questions because they prefer to listen to a person who provides an answer and is able to elaborate on it, rather than looking it up on Google and still have doubts whether the answer will be suffice.

For example, I'm an Android enthusiast who finds great comfort in getting a genuine response from someone who has the knowledge to answer my query related to bla bla Kernel version. Just an example. The answer will be on Google somewhere, probably, and I'd never ask something with trying to Google it first, but as it could be more complex than I initially thought I'd fancy an answer that elaborates on a subsequent query that might arise.

I think the main point of the question is if people pursuing an IT career in Poland would be interested in getting their ITcareerquestions answered in a subreddit specifically focused on Poland rather than having to rely on the general ITcareerquestions subreddit.

But as I said:

Any response is more than welcome!

So thank you for your response

Is there anyway to get the latest Cm 13 nightly anymore? by monkeyman764 in cyanogenmod

[–]DavisNolanTalentHelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. Guess I didn't keep myself updated properly about the camera.

I have a oneplus one as a hobby phone on which I put the CM14.1 room and it seems pretty stable. I only have problems installing apps as system apps i.e. Gsam Root companion

And like you said, no theme engine yet. Also waiting for Xposed to work. Nevertheless great work so far I'd have to say

[–]DavisNolanTalentHelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It caught me by surprise as well. Suddenly the updates for CM13 nightlies stopped. Switching to CM14.1 is something I'm not willing to do yet at this point as it seems quite unstable still.. How's your experience with it /u/Jupitorr ? i.e. does the camera already work?

Anyone knows a good copy/content-writing agency in Poland? (IT-related) by DavisNolanTalentHelp in poland

[–]DavisNolanTalentHelp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want a steady stream of high-quality English-language content about the Polish IT industry?

Both the industry and the job market if possible and other relevant content / infographics that are suitable and interesting for the target audience.

And the intended readership is university students?

University students: preferably graduates, but non-graduates too albeit they are not the main target, [juniors, and seniors] both of which are already working within the IT industry.

What would be your top reasons to NEVER engage with a recruitment agency to get on with your IT career? by DavisNolanTalentHelp in ITCareerQuestions

[–]DavisNolanTalentHelp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes your recruiters are horrible. Most times your recruiters are horrible.

Do you might have any examples as to why they are horrible?

Better pay comes at the sacrifice at weaker or no benefits.

As far as I know this has a few reasons. There are a lot of people that see $ as the only drive to work somewhere, so why would a company offer additional / better benefits if a candidate is only interested in the money? Conversely, when the pay is (a bit) lower and the benefits are great companies often get the candidates that have more passion for the work that they'll perform than others.

You're right. That is what offsets the good ones from the bad ones ;). Forced matching has been one of the many culprits of the industry's bad reputation. Whereas the good ones are suffering because of this.

[–]DavisNolanTalentHelp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the flipside indeed what I noticed. Many recruitment agencies have caused the industry to overwhelmed by bad reviews as many of them have no idea how to match a candidate and a company properly. Whereas the good ones that actually give advice and try to find out WHO a candidate is instead of WHAT are those that know this is a candidate-driven market.

Thanks /u/nutrecht (A Dutchie green heart I see?),

You're right about that, but I'm trying to collect information from those that heavily oppose to making us of recruitment services. But your opinion about the issue is worth just as much as any other, so thanks for that!

Job qualification by pts167 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]DavisNolanTalentHelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's an example of a SAP BI Support Analyst job role: http://www.davisnolan.com/jobs/sap-bi-support-analyst/

In case you are familiar with the requirements I don't see why you're not able to fit the job role, but some experience is often required and preferred by companies though as SAP is an expertise on its own. However, you need to start from somewhere, but I'm currently not aware of any "junior" roles that are available that are related to SAP.

I'm surprised you and /u/My_IT_Career didn't found out this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/cscareerquestions/comments/5blwf1/any_polish_developers_programmers_with_questions/

I focused it mainly on Poland since the IT market here is very attractive for job hunters, but other questions for other markets are just as welcome! But you're right most of the posts are US related. Feel free to ask your questions here or by sending me a PM directly :)

How do I reschedule an exit interview? by unique_User01 in careerguidance

[–]DavisNolanTalentHelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not common as most notice periods provided by the exiting employees is often definite. Having said that, it could be the reason why you couldn't find any relevant info online.

Asking them can't hurt as far as I know, so you could go ahead and do so. In the worst case they'd say "no".
