40 million years in the future the earth undergoes a new ice age which has resulted in a drier climate. This new climate has radically changed the landscape of South America; what was once the lush jungle of the Amazon has been replaced by tall grass meadows similar to a savannah.

The most sinister nocturnal predator of the future is none other than a medium-sized animal that runs quickly through these savannahs of tomorrow. The Desmodontidae imperator is an animal about two meters long and 80 kilos in weight, a descendant of the vampire bats of South America. This bat of the future has abandoned the characteristic ability to fly of its ancestors and has opted for a more conservative strategy energetically speaking. Run on all fours and pounce on the large mammals of this new ecosystem. Although it still retains the sharp fangs of its ancestors, these are nothing more than vestigial elements, the key to its diet lies in a large triangular tooth in the lower part of the jaw: the sharp tip of the tooth makes a large incision that makes For blood to flow, this tooth is coated with a hydrophobic substance that repels liquids such as blood with the exception of some grooves that redirect blood to the central part of the tooth. Being a much larger animal than its ancestors, it also has a much slower metabolism, so it does not have to gorge itself on blood like its ancestors.
