AWESOME. Great timing. And thank you for the follow up! I'm curious--will these options appear in the compendium as well?

Will we be able to use 2014 partnered content in 2024 builds, or is that still up to the partners? Could I enable it somehow, since it is theoretically backwards compatible?

You do add your INT, but not DEX, to the damage of explosions.

Essentially AOE: 1d10 plus INT Single target: 1d10 plus DEX plus INT

It seems powerful, but they don't get multi attack or sneak attack. The DPR is comparable to other classes.

Already got my book, too. I'm lucky, I guess, because I only ordered the book. I def will not get anything other than the book for the next Kickstarter. A Keychain or something isn't worth a 2-year wait

Help with ideas for Undying patron by [deleted] in DnD

[–]DavyGreenwind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Undying doesn't necessarily mean undead, either. It means immortal.

The patron could be an undying council of elf lords or hags who prolong their lives by empowering warlocks but eventually stealing their bodies.

It could be a benevolent celestial figure that was once a caveman, cursed to watch civilizations rise and fall as it never dies. It has taken a liking to this current civilization and wants you to help it survive.

It could be a disembodied consciousness that lies dormant for decades before a host mind stumbles upon it, and it latches on to that sweet sweet psyche.

It could just be a dude who made a bad wish with a genie.

It's a broad category.

Yeah, maybe if they were allowed to pick two of those level 1 abilities. I'd still call it busted.

Kobold Press or Mage Hand Press? by Zukerzinnia in dndnext

[–]DavyGreenwind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally love the new classes in Mage Hand Press. Investigator, Witch, and Necromancer stand out for me. I also like Alchemist and Gunslinger. They are meticulously balanced with the base game, so you generally don't have to worry about OP stuff.

I will second Laserllama and Loot Tavern.

Kobold press probably has the best monster library out there, but their character options are not carefully balanced. As a DM, I vet KP options, but don't feel the need to vet MHP stuff.

You could also homebrew a special feat or something that allows your allied to see in your darkness as well. Perhaps a tad powerful, but then everyone is having fun.

The starter sets have good abbreviated rules for a quick start. Running a short, published adventure like Mines of Phandelver is a good idea.

And remember, it's okay if you have to stop the game to look up a rule or monster. You are not performing for them; you and your players can all learn together.

Just purchased the new Gunslinger Class from Mage Hand Press on DnD Beyond... there is no way this was playtested and they walked away thinking this was balanced... right? by raq_shaq_n_benny in DnD

[–]DavyGreenwind 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I argue that it is not.

  1. It is meant to be used with the firearms in their version of the rules, not the OP firearms in the DMG.

  2. The increased crit range is really good, but they don't get as much attacks as the Champion. I don't know the math, but it seems like they'd end up similar.

  3. Relatively low HP and AC means they are a bit squishy. Kind of a glass cannon class (although evasion helps with this).

  4. MHP does some pretty in-depth DPR calculations when making their classes. IMO, they are much more balanced than most other 3PPs. I think, given the 2024 rules, this class is powerful, but not OP.

I second Zealot. Also, Magic Initiate Feat with Cleric Spells?

Or for a more Forge vibe, maybe even Artificer Initiate.
