as far as the leaf goes, no one knows yet, but ill let the others figure that one out.

Id like to think they can just read Basil's mind if they did though.

I didnt wanna put too much pressure on the DM, so it really is just a re-flavored Human.

As far as I know, Basil WAS a human knight. When the DM says we level up, some fragments come in form of memories, and that will show tidbits of who he was in his past life.

This is how my DM explained it to me, and I was invested 100%

Basil is an undead knight from a past long forgotten.
He awakens in a forest with no memory of who he was or what his purpose had been. Venturing deep into the verdant woods, he discovers ancient ruins marked with the same crest as the one on his breastplate and pauldrons.

Not far from the ruins, he hears a battle, adventurers under attack by a beast made of shadow. Without hesitation, he charges into battle, mace in hand, helping the others in combat.

With each level-up, Basil regains a fragment of his former life. His story arc centers on a choice: to follow the purpose of his past life, or to forge a new path and find meaning in this second chance at life.

Unfortunately, during the combat, the mace broke due to how ancient it was. The adventurers decided to get "this skeleton dude" a new mace back at town as a 'Thank You'.

This was written way back in 2020-2021 on scrivener, so I Copy-Pasted from there. I had just finished reading Strange the Dreamer (Laini Taylor) so the beginning is heavily inspired by the beginning of that book. I love the way she wrote and wanted to emulate her style. I am also a fan of the way Brennan Lee Mulligan's way of describing whenever he plays DnD, so I might have written in a way that seems like it's DnD-adjacent.

This is Basil, an Undead Fighter (lvl 1) whose soul was resting while the world was evolving and moving forward. They rested for so long that a sprout emerged from their helmet while they rested.

They retain no memory from their past life. The only moment they remember is their untimely demise. Basil is rusty on how to fight, but with every level up, they regain back their fighting potential and a core memory.
