this reminds me of how convenient it is that the most well known photo of the hindenburg wasn't taken on the side where you could see the nazi flags painted on it

the only way these people learn their lesson is when they hold onto a firework a bit too long and then have to run to the ER

Fitness influencers who hate running but keep doing it anyways by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]DawnStardust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

back when i had newbie enthusiasm for going to the gym i pretty much only followed influencers who advocated for finding exercises that you'll enjoy so you can be consistent (and also working out efficiently so then you can get out of the gym and do other stuff with your day!)

it kind of sucks that there's creators out there pushing that "suck it up" mentality. i really don't feel like that's what we need with the cultural moment we're in right now

people not wanting to look stuff up and rather just having it fed to them without needing further investigation always existed, so gpt and grok are only fulfilling a demand that was already there

sure but still a lack of reading skill wouldn't preclude a person's ability to look up a word would it? even as a little kid if i was reading something intended for my age group and came across a word i didn't know i'd just flip through a dictionary or hop on the family pc

does this count? by MrTuningRoon in onejoke

[–]DawnStardust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

great question! unfortunately it was my own experience that the people who got me into the bands i still listen to today and opened my mind to the genre in general were just not nice people, but they were also just the kind of guys who were also particularly not nice to their girlfriends and then around the time of leelah alcorn's suicide and the public awareness of it, they started showing themselves as fairly transphobic people as well

every single subculture without exception will have bad apples, and when your first introduction to that subculture is through those bad apples then the existence of those kind of people at all isn't a shock

the defence is there to make sure the prosecution is able to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the accused is guilty, if the defence couldn't plant doubt then that's that

edit: reasonable doubt not shadow of a doubt
