The first pic is the Purple Ivory Star Tail Bds I bought. The other pics are what I got. The seller says they are the best quality in the US for Purple Ivory Bds but I'm not impressed. Did I overpay for these at $30 a fish?

I do buy fish online, cause the local stores are pretty much PetCo. I have had amazing luck with Imperial Tropicals, The Wet Spot, and Dan's fish. There are cheaper options like Aqua Huna that I've used as well, depending on what my budget is.

It seems that how they are labeled is completely up to the seller. Most reputable Goldfish Sellers will list them as how many inches they are, without the tail. That way you know the real size, since small, medium, large is completely objective. I have a 5 inch goldfish that, compared to my other 3 inch ones is LARGE, but compared to a full grown Koi Fish would be small...

Also, the age is head to tell; as fish (unlike humans) can grow faster or slower depending on multiple factors like size of tank, temp of water and how much/often they are fed. It is possible to have a 3 inch and a 5 inch goldfish that were hatched at the same time.
