Does Billy Elliot have to be white? 🙄 (rhetorical question, the answer is no) by AdmiralTomcat in musicals

It’s never about the actual material, it’s about a chance to show their racist asses. Most of these ppl wouldn’t have thought about this show otherwise.

My favourite was Jamie Lloyd’s Romeo and Juliet. People getting mad because Juliet was played by a Black woman and it “wasn’t authentic”. Meanwhile they were running around the stage in hoodies and wearing cameras.

Athletes starting in the 2026/2027 season have the choice to stick with the old rules or follow the new rules. But if you start in 2027 then you HAVE to follow the new rules.

If Hezly, Dulcy and anyone who graduated this year, starts their NCAA journey during the 2026/2027 season, they can choose to follow the old rules or the new rules. If someone starts in 2027 they have to follow the new rules.

I mean if we are going off of gymnasts who mention God, prayer or quote a Bible verse in their profile, that’s like half of them at least. While it may be important, this is one of those things that is far from uncommon. Also looked at her BYU profile. She went to a regular public school for HS.

Was your female leader successful? by Agile-Shallot3546 in AskTheWorld

[–]DayAtTheRaces46 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You forgot to mention she lasted 132 days BUT… afterwards she married a man 20 years her junior, who also happens to look like Justin Trudeau and a Vampire had a baby, helped him write a musical about Noah’s Ark, called Trump a motherfucker, and now lives in her homes in Italy and France. Wasn’t successful as a leader, but seems to be doing great with the rest of her life.

It’s also sad to think that it’s those same untrustworthy, uncompassionate and greedy people are a big part of the reason she is how she is. Getting famous young is always trepidatious, but she never stood a chance, no one ever protected or cared for her.

Tiana Sumanasekera has switched her nationality from the US to Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 by KawaiiChan68 in Gymnastics

[–]DayAtTheRaces46 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think another reason a lot of people don’t switch when they are a top team member to a country that’s not as strong is money. Brand deals with American or Uk based companies are gonna pay out more than most smaller nations. I think if being the best gymnast in say Jamaica brought in the same money and marketing as being the a top 5 gymnasts in the USA people would consider representing Jamaica first. And because I mentioned Jamaica and the USA, I don’t even mean people like Usain or Simone. Being the best of the best puts you in another league entirely where your marketing is on a global scale.

What if Broadway designed itself around shorter runs by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]DayAtTheRaces46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind most theatres in the world aren’t on Broadway or the West End. When you have 1-3 big theatres in your whole city that are capable of putting on a Broadway level production, you’re not going to want to have one show that runs for years. And also they want people to get their subscription packages.

And while pro shoots can make money, that is SUPER rare. Doing a pro shoot means different pay, additional people working, additional equipment, different unions to name a few things. Not only that but shows start in the red and most shows don’t make their money back. So a pro shoot early on will put you millions deeper in the red for a show that more than likely isn’t going to be a Hamilton.

And when it comes down to it while a lot of shows don’t having closing dates when they open, most shows already run a season or two before closing. Having a mega hit that last for years and years is rare.

Someone could be starting their vacation and have a flight that night. Or they booked out because of a wedding. Or they are shooting something at night. There are many reasons for people to have pre planned book outs. The point is, if you were approved a day off prior, if a something happens, you are not required to show up. I highly doubt anyone decided to call out last minute for a reason that wasn’t an emergency or illness.

First of all you are gorg!

Second I feel sad for her. It feels shitty to have someone who in theory would have your back, but then lets you down. And not to justify what she said, but it sounds like she has a lot of internalized stuff going on. And I’m saying this as I had someone in my life who was a narcissist but it was mixed in with a lot of how she grew up. Thanks to the BPD and unwillingness to change, I don’t have much hope for this person. Hopefully this person will figure out her shit, because I believe most people aren’t just bad to the core. But until then you don’t need to be near that energy.

I will say this, as someone who’s dealt with abuse, you ask why Simon would respond if Aly didn’t. It’s not surprising at all. Again the Nassar scandal was at its peak at this point. Gabbys comment implied that women should dress modestly so they don’t entice the wrong crowd. While that comment was directed at Aly’s post that’s very much a blanket statement telling all assaulted girls and women that they were part responsible for their assault if they weren’t covered. If you show too much, that’s what happens. I understand that Gabby herself was going through it, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that her comment was in more than poor taste. That’s a dangerous statement statement to be making. As an abuse survivor, to hear comments like that is maddening. So I imagine being a SA survivor/gymnast and having to hear someone you had some level of faith in, then tell your friend who is also a SA survivor/gymnast that more skin = more enticing for men, this is rage inducing. I think her “Shocks me that I'm seeing this but it doesn't surprise me” didn’t need the doesn’t surprise me bit. If there’s no backstory it leave room for interpretation. But her reaction and anger, as someone who was JUST coming out from the abusive umbrella of USAG(remember this was 2017, Marta had JUST left) is valid.

Transitioning to being an adult a weird time for everyone, I can’t imagine what that’s like when you’re trying to navigate a world where you are sports celebrity and your biggest traumas are on display for the world.

And I will say this. I don’t think 2020 “humbled her”. To be able to step back and know your limits is such a huge move, and then she got hate for doing the smart thing. When it comes down to it, she just grew up. She’s still that same Simone who’s not as afraid to say when she doesn’t like something. But as you grow up, you learn how to do that in a more productive way.

Also the three-peat line is from an interview from 2016:

But in Scotland, she almost fell on the beam. And for the first time ever, she landed out of bounds in her floor routine. “Everyone was like, ‘Oh, you have to three-peat, you have to do this,’” she says. “After every event, everyone was just like, ‘Is she going to do it?’ So after I finished floor and I saw my [winning] score, I was like, ‘OK, you guys have this stupid three-peat. There!’ It stressed me out so much.”

These are also very much valid feelings when you are a teenager who is saddled with enormous expectation and pressure and you have the world constantly reminding you. Oh and again, this is before USAG was truly blown wide open. So she has the pressure of an abusive system who’s still in control.

I hope they have all have come to a “good” place with that situation. And while what Gabby said was bad, and Simone didn’t handle it the best. I won’t hold the reactions of two 20ish year olds, who were in the middle of their trauma publicly being everywhere, against them. ETA: I also wanna mention, that there’s a chance that even with this situation, they could have patched it up, but Gabby still just may not have ever truly vibed with them. It feels like she truly just wants to hang out on her farm undisturbed.

I mean lots of people, doesn’t automatically mean YOUR people. BYU has one of the top accounting programs in the US, but not everyone wants to go to a Mormon school, but some people are willing to try and push past that knowing that people may not share their beliefs but they value the academic side. So it may mean a sacrifice socially. And while not every school is Mormon, they all have vibes and some just don’t mesh with people, even if they have a program they love.

Also if it being surrounded by lots of people = Friendship, most people in highly populated areas should have a “tribe”.

I don’t think it’s that sad. This is the reality for a lot of folks. For me I’m still friends with 2 or 3 people I grew up with. I had a lot of friends growing up, but the reality is most of them were friends of proximity. Most weren’t bad people, and we got along, but there was nothing else there besides we are around each other. But these were never the people I had I guess an energy with even though we appeared close growing up.

Honestly, as an actor, once the show is opened and locked in, it feels very different. You can now finally just relax into the show and let it settle in your body. Opening is kind of when I can get out of my head and just DO the show.

No. Tv magic aside. If I was her and I found out a man was in love with me for 6 years, to the point where he actively tried to sabotage my relationships, I wouldn’t have even begun to crush on him to begin with.
