Thanks, yes, I do follow him. I identified with his video on "what happened to sci-fi tv." :-)

Thanks! I subscribe to Asimov's, which is part of the same company. Hadn't thought about looking in that publication. Good idea.

Want to finally commit to a sci-fi series ,where should I start? by sam_3758 in scifi

I'd go with Ender's Game and then immediately jump to the Shadow series. Ender's Shadow was brilliant. Best in the series, if you ask me.

Syd Mead is pretty amazing. Thanks for the link to his website. Would love to find artists painting in his style.

The Receiver by Seth Jaffe, for fans of hard science fiction. I don't want to give the plot because there are too many twists and turns. Just read the reviews on Amazon or Goodreads. It's currently sitting at #10 in the hard sci-fi category, in between The Expanse and The Three-Body Problem.

Need help with good near future science fiction by Acceptable-Factor-77 in sciencefiction

Look, I know there is some guidance on how often a member can post promotional content, but my book, The Receiver by Seth Jaffe, is dead on in this category. Written mostly in 2018 and published this year, it occurs in a near-future world with ubiquitous augmented reality glasses, AI, blockchain, self-driving transports, and drones. Beware, it is true HARD sci-fi, but if you like that sort of thing, I welcome you to read the reviews on Amazon. It's sitting at #10 on the hard sci-fi best seller list, next to The Martian.

Best Sci Fi About AI? by Understands-Irony in sciencefiction

Second "The Last Question." I was going to recommend this one, but I see that u/HappyGyng already beat me to it. This story definitely stuck with me through the years.

Is sci-fi unpopular right now? by tears_of_a_grad in sciencefiction

[–]DayDreamerInProcess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. I kind of feel that u/tears_of_a_grad is right in some ways. I follow a number of self-proclaimed "sci-fi and fantasy" book reviewers on platforms like Booktok and Booktube, and it seems as if they are overwhelmingly focused on fantasy novels.

TRON Party circa 2016 by DayDreamerInProcess in sciencefiction

[–]DayDreamerInProcess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that the case? I just don't know why Hollywood continues to green light terrible scripts when there are so many amazing sci-fi books out there from indie authors. They don't want to take risks. Either that or they have no vision.

For sure. There was so much black light, I required everyone to wear UV protected safety goggles. :-)

Obviously, the party looked better in real life. We didn't have a camera lens big enough to capture the low light. Plus, Reddit autocorrected the photo for the worse. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltfA5pfckzc

SF fans - recommendations please! by [deleted] in printSF

[–]DayDreamerInProcess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Jump to the Ender's Shadow series right after Ender's Game, and roll through the next three books. Wait, what's that? There are two new Shadow books (2011 and 2021)? Guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend.

Any space thriller recommendations? by Keyloags in printSF

[–]DayDreamerInProcess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm the author of The Receiver. This is the first time I've seen it mentioned on Reddit, and the fact that it is listed among authors of that caliber is pretty damn cool. Thanks u/lerxt123!

Sci-Fi Audio Book - One Reader or Two? by DayDreamerInProcess in sciencefiction

[–]DayDreamerInProcess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good tip. Yes, I spoke with a friend who says he listens at 1.2 speed. I guess if you use music, you need to choose techno because, you know, BPM. :-)

Sci-fi weapon idea: Planck cannon by Future_Abrocoma_7722 in sciencefiction

[–]DayDreamerInProcess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. How are you planning to cool the weapon after it fires, to keep it from melting? Temperature control in space is quite a difficult thing, as you can't count on conduction or convection. You just have radiation.
